Responsibilities

The main purpose would be to support the turbomachinery team with component design and CFD calculations. You will be responsible for the aerodynamical design and optimization of most challenging rocket engine components such as impellers and turbines.

More specifically, you will:

  • Perform 3D-design and aerodynamical optimization of turbomachinery components
  • Perform CFD calculations for rotating and non-rotating turbomachinery parts
  • Participate in the entire design cycle of turbomachinery from turbopump layout to component design of pumps, turbine, housing, bearings and seals to the maturation of these components and the overall system through testing.
  • Develop and mature tools specific to the design and development of turbomachinery
  • Ensure component and system performance through development testing, design iterations and post-test data reviews.

Profile

Musts:

  • Passion for rocket propulsion and space
  • M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering or similar
  • Experience with turbomachinery design, development and testing
  • Experience with rotating machinery component design including turbines, impellers, housings, bearings, and seals
  • Exceptional comprehension of engineering fundamentals: aerodynamics, hydrodynamics and heat transfer
  • Extensive knowledge of CFD analysis tools (ANSYS CFX preferred)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to effectively collaborate on multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Fluent in English
  • Highly organized and proactive with high attention to detail
  • Driven and eager to learn

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with turbomachinery specific to rocket engine applications
  • Familiar with cryogenic fluids and oxygen compatibility
  • Knowledge of NPSH testing, cavitation and cavitation suppression techniques
  • Experience with modeling high speed compressible flow
  • Experience with 3D blading of inducers, centrifugal compressors and axial flow turbines
  • Experience using commercial turbomachinery blading software (e.g. ANSYS Turbo Systems, CFTurbo)
  • Knowledge or experience in Python programming
  • Hands-on turbomachinery experience
