About this job

We are recruiting 4 Application Engineers for Sapienza to work on our Customers Site (Eumetsat). Contractors will provide Application Engineering support for Data Processing Systems and Applications with special emphasis on Earth Observation satellites. In addition, work will be emphasized on the contribution to the maintenance and evolution of off-line Ground Segments elements specifically for quality control, calibration and validation, data monitoring and visualization, and auxiliary data management and services.

The team will be supporting new programmes like EPS-SG, MTG and JASON-CS/Sentinel 6.

Responsibilities

  • Define, design, implement and integrate architectures or elements of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components – with special emphasis on product quality control, calibration and validation, production monitoring and reporting
  • Operate, maintain and evolve existing operational data processing ground segments applications or application components especially for those under configuration control
  • Contribution in the maintenance and development of offline supporting applications tools, other support and data processing systems and applications for all operational programmes and new programmes
  • Contribute to the Configuration Management process and the building and distribution of software releases and patches developed internally and by third parties, its integration, installation and testing
  • Participate in Anomaly investigations, preparation of technical documentation and classification in the area of Data Processing System and Applications; this shall include activities for reproducing anomalies raised by the users and their provision to external companies for their resolution
  • Maintain up to date status of actions assigned via Dimension, anomalies via APT and tickets assigned via JIRA
  • Expert advice to the procurement and installation of software, and the co-ordination of software releases with external providers of support services
  • Generate formal project documentation and ad-hoc project documentation following ECSS standards
  • Participation in meetings and formal reviews

Profile

  • Master’s in engineering
  • At least 6 years of relevant work in the field of Data Processing Systems and Engineering
  • Experience with operational Earth Observation science data processing
  • Relevant work experience with Earth Observation satellites”
  • Experience of operating and maintaining software systems in a UNIX based environment (specifically LINUX and AIX)
  • Competence in S/W testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation
  • Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation, e.g. requirements documents using DOORS, design documentation, test procedures, maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant Standards, Quality Assurance and Configuration Management principles and applications
  • Very good communication, presentation and team working; capability to be independent and to adapt to a rapidly changing often stressful environment is also essential
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of another Eumetsat member-state language is an asset

 

Desirable skills:

  • C/C++ programming language experience in a UNIX based environment
  • Use of and application programming of database systems in particular ORACLE, INFORMIX, PostgreSQL and MySQL
  • Software debugging, memory analysis, and profiling
  • Competence in the use of scripting languages (e.g., bash, shell, Perl) and high-level languages (e.g., Python, Java)
  • Experience in using Python libraries and tools, such as Matplotlib, NumPy, Django and accessing sql databases from Python
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards
