This role is located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Knoxville, TN.  This position will be responsible for development of digital systems and data analysis to support research into Laser Wire Additive Manufacturing and integration of Industry 4.0 technologies for digitalization of industrial processes.  Responsibilities will include assessing processes, scoping requirements and equipment, implementing and integrating sensors, developing analysis tools, conducting data analysis, and recommending process changes. This role will have a key cross-functional role in bringing technical knowledge and expertise to bear across the multiple manufacturing sites to develop and share best practices on digitalization of industry.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the Technical Lead for data analytics and digitization of industrial processes for application to Additive Manufacturing and other aerospace manufacturing processes
  • Support and contribute towards development of quality processes based on data analysis
  • Advise and recommend process changes to improve quality and consistency of manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate and provide guidance to Oak Ridge National Laboratory researchers as part of Cooperative Research and Development Agreement
  • Conduct data analytics to support Additive Manufacturing research as well as other aerospace manufacturing processes such as machining, forming, and welding
  • Interface with the customers and suppliers on the research projects
  • Support Technology Readiness Level reviews to support technology implementation
  • Organize periodic project reviews within the GKN technology organization and with the customer to ensure good communication of project achievements, issues and progress against plan
  • Work closely with Chief and Site Engineering to deploy technologies into production
  • Stay current with related technical activity within GKN’s global technology team (and through related technology organizations) & ensure effective exchange of results and issues
  • Actively participate in program to promote Health & Safety of team members
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for effective performance.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Profile

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Science
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in data analysis, digital manufacturing systems, additive manufacturing and/or aerospace manufacturing
  • 1 + years of experience with Industry 4.0, machine learning, digital twin, and digital factory
  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with software and networking of industrial systems
  • Aerospace technology development experience
  • Understanding of quality systems in aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Experience or coursework promoting an understanding of conventional manufacturing processes
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
  • Knowledge of aerospace applications
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks with challenging and changing work
  • Excellent written, verbal and collaboration skills
