This role is suited for Software Engineers and Developers, all at different stages of their careers, who want to work with a large variety of projects across multiple domains. Specialisms within this space such as front-end, backend, fullstack, systems software development, cloud architecture and engineering, DevOps, etc. are all possibilities that this role supports. A diversity or focus of such roles will be considered on a case by case basis and according to the opportunities available at a given time.

Responsibilities

Your projects will be diverse – working with varying clients, across a number of sectors, using a range of skills. Consequently, we are looking for individuals able to work flexibly across projects in different domains. You might apply your skills to rapidly prototype new approaches & solutions. Equally, you may apply them to complement or advance existing solutions.

  • Design, develop and engineer software for Roke and its customers
  • Develop software and associated artefacts (reports etc.) for projects, products and services
  • Contributing to the winning of work in line with the organisation’s software engineering goals
  • Contribute to the software engineering strategy of the organisation
  • Understand and apply new and emerging technologies to support the winning and delivery of work
  • Provide technical consultancy and guidance on software, software engineering and software related technologies and approaches to other members of the organisation and customers

Profile

You will have the demonstrated ability to perform appropriate software engineering in more than one language, as well as, the demonstrated ability to learn new languages, platforms, technologies, techniques and approaches. You will also be familiar with Linux, Agile development, DevOps practices, software testing, and working with open source software.

Familiarity with at least one of:

  • Java
  • JavaScript
  • C++
  • C#

Beyond your technical skills, you will be proactive and able to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. You will work well alone or as part of a team. You will be curious and seek out the best approach/solution/tool for the job at hand.

Due to the nature of this position, we require you to be willing and eligible to achieve a minimum of SC. To qualify, you should be a British Citizen and have resided in the UK for the last 5 years for SC and 10 years for DV. High level clearance bonus is available and will be considered on application.
