Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of professional, technical and analytical duties in the operation of the enterprises Unix/Linux & Oracle Cloud environments.
  • Provide day to day support and customer interaction for break fix and troubleshooting issues including proactive maintenance for applications and services.
  • A portion of time will be used to support the designs, analysis, plans and implementation of IT projects which includes considerations for data storage, virtualisation, cloud, collaboration, applications, operating systems and security as well as support processes.
  • Support and maintain enterprise cloud / server devices including patching and maintenance to ensure continual security accreditation and compliance of the estate.
  • Derives captures, analyses and translates complex IT and business requirements / directions into supporting and enabling information technology architecture and projects, to meet both tactical short term and strategic long term business objectives.
  • Coordinates and plays an advisory role in IT infrastructure development or implementation projects;
  • Assist,  guide and share expertise with other team members to resolve complex problems and develop complex infrastructure solutions ;
  • Generates and presents ideas for improvements to management teams and other team members.
  • Analyse, detect, identify and correct technical problems and deficiencies.
  • Determines installation parameters for software and hardware, for smooth integration, transition and efficiency
  • Installation and configuration of software(s)
  • Troubleshooting Operating System, Hardware and Software (including diagnosis and solution) of incidents, working to pre-defined SLA’s
  • Service request completion. Including updating and communicating customers
  • Undertake Patching, hot fixes and Maintenance of the estate to ensure Security accreditation and compliance
  • Ensure hardware and software inventories are current and correct in the inventory application
  • Process and procedure creation and documentation
  • Monitor and collect data on system performance
  • Performs physical cleanup of work areas
  • Contribute to the design, implementation of new technologies
  • Ability to research errors using online resources
  • Self-maintain technical skill sets
  • Contribute to the design, implementation and maintenance of the disaster recovery plan for IT related applications and systems
  • Seeks to identify areas of improvements to the IT infrastructure to meet evolving users and customer requirements, challenges and resilience of the environment.
  • Develops key relationships. Work with third party vendors and peers from other General Dynamics Business units
  • Available for afterhours support (with prior agreement in line with support rota and arrangements) to ensure availability, integrity and introduction of new and existing services
  • Management and monitoring of backup process including the reporting and resolution of any issues including any offsite storage processes.

Profile

Technical knowledge in following areas:

  • Oracle Cloud
  • Unix (Solaris)
  • Linux (Various Distributions)

Technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Oracle OVM
  • iSCSI
  • SAN storage
  • Intel based hardware support
  • Sun based hardware support
  • Knowledge and understanding of information risk concepts and principles
  • Analytical skills, to help analyse business requirements and relate them to appropriate IT infrastructure components and processes
  • Understanding of ITIL and IT processes
