Are you a qualified Software Engineer, keen to develop a career in aerospace, space & defence domains ? Do you have techical skills including C, C++ and / or Java in Linux and / or Windows environments? AKKA UK continue to grow our in-house software capability and would welcome software development engineers, of all levels, interested in the opportunity to work with a consultancy, across multiple sectors

Responsibilities

  • Performing software development activities for the development of an embedded systems
  • Excellent technical skills in C++ & Java and demonstrated experience in realtime simulation/test rig development to complement our existing team.
  • Development of existing/next generation of functional real-time simulators as well as support end-users with existing simulators functionality (training and bug fixes).
  • Good knowledge of Bash and/or Python – Expert knowledge of the Linux OS and Eclipse SDE
  • Able to manually handle fragile electronics equipment.

Profile

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar
  • Experience of software development for embedded systems
  • Experience of SDLC – full lifecycle
  • Development of software architecture
  • Working in an in an Agile driven environment
  • Requiring great organisational, planning and verbal & written verbal skills
  • Java – ideally up to Java 8
  • Object Orientated Development – OOP, OOA, OOD
  • Eclipse
  • Windows & Linux platform development
  • Knowledge and thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Experience with source code management using SVN/GIT (branching, merging, vendor branch etc.) – Experience with bug-tracking systems (i.e. Redmine or other)
  • Experience with Continuous Integration methods and associated tools/technologies (Jenkins).
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) using junit would be beneficial

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of Spacecraft avionics systems – Knowledge of one or more of the following data protocols (SpaceWire, MilSTD 1553, ECSS PUS, CAN.
  • Requiring great organisational, planning and verbal & written verbal skills
  • Opportunity and requirement to support projects on UK customer sites
