Sapienza Consulting, a Serco company, is recruiting a Storage and Data Protection Engineer, to work on the AAS Project at NATO-NCIA, with work location in Braine-l’Alleud, Wallonia, Belgium.
Responsibilities
Duties & Role:
The incumbent as Storage and Data Protection Engineer is accountable to the SDM of INF007 (Infrastructure Storage Services) throughout the entire service lifecycle, regardless of where the technology components, processes or professional capabilities reside. The incumbent will perform duties such as following:
- Support ITM-M and ITM-R projects for infrastructure storage and backup implementation, integration and transition activities.
- Lead hands on implementation, integration, transition, maintenance, automation, and repair of a various shared storage devices, fibre channel switches and infrastructure data protection and backup technologies. Key areas of expertise are:
- Central enterprise administration of storage and backup resources including DR and remote sites;
- Ensuring all required file systems, system data, operating systems and databases are successfully protected by coordinating data/database/application owners and Service Delivery Managers;
- Identification operational problems and contribution to their resolution;
- Ensure the security and integrity of system and product solutions in AOR including compliance, hardening with NCIA, industry engineering and Information Security principles and practices
- Partner with the Infrastructure Architecture/Engineering, and Operations teams for designing and supporting shared storage technologies from vendors and other storage, data protection and backup technologies during all phases of systems lifecycle to define, implement and support proof of concept, design, configuration, automation, testing, migration phases, triage incidents to resolution and mentoring of other teammates;
- Play critical role in problem management/resolution when faults occur and provide support in problem management/resolution and engage in recommending/submitting/implementing proactive change requests to prevent problems from occurring based on trending analysis and business needs;
- Perform daily data protection activities including, storage and backup checks, backup of new servers/services, troubleshooting, and debugging;
- Participate in full ITIL-based methodology for Change Control, Problem Management, Service Management, and Capacity Management;
- Design and develop policies, operational procedures and instructions for the Shared Storage and backup infrastructure for team members;
- Ensuring that the ongoing service provision meets agreed customer requirements;
- Lifecycle management of storage and data protection hardware and software including RFCs to get approval for new versions, support and maintenance contracts;
- CSI of their service and that any efficiency and effectiveness requirements and targets are achieved;
- Keep Service Asset and Configuration Management database up-to-date;
- Provide technical and professional contributions to the conception, development and execution of IaaS projects;
- Performs other duties and support other projects and daily operations as may be required;
- Might need to work on scheduled maintenances, service-affecting activities and contingency work outside of regular business hours
Profile
Skill, Knowledge & Experience:
- The candidate must have a currently active NATO SECRET security clearance.
Experience and Education:
- Sound practical experience in the architecture, design, implementation, support, testing and maintenance and best practices of storage and backup infrastructure for large-scale distributed deployment
- Sound practical experience in SAN/NAS network fundamentals (TCP-IP, FC, FCoE, iSCSI, WWN, WWNP, LIFS) with SAN, Unified and NAS storages
- Sound practical experience in fabric switches and Fiber Channel (FC) networking
- Sound practical experience in software-defined-storages
- Sound practical experience in one or more of Enterprise data protection products and/or all-in-one or hyperconverged backup appliances such as Veeam, Commvault HyperScale, Netbackup, PowerProtect DP Appliances/Data Manager, Avamar, Networker Rubric, etc. and their integration with VMware vCenter
- Sound practical experience for consistent backups and restore of operating systems (Windows, Linux-like, Solaris), databases and application: VMware VMs, Microsoft SQL (AlwaysON availability groups, transaction log, point-in-time restore), MySQL, Microsoft SharePoint, Oracle backup (via RMAN, Archive log backups, backup and restore scripts), Microsoft Exchange database (DAG, granular level recovery)
- Sound practical experience in Tier-2 and Tier-3 backup storages
- Sound practical experience in off-site or isolated backups along with backup data replication
- Must be well versed in current and emerging technologies, technological trends, and industry best practices for their areas of responsibility
- Sound practical experience in VMware virtual environments
Desirable Experience and Education:
- ITIL 3 Service Operation or ITIL 4 ITIL Specialist Certification
- PRINCE2 or PMP
- Sound practical experience in Data Domain backup storage
- Sound practical experience in backup to ‘Vault’ and ransomware protection
- Certification in storage or backup area such as ONTAP Administrator, Veeam, DCS-IE or DCS-SA or DCE-IE or or other related
- Sound practical experience in scripting (Python, Power-Shell, etc.) for Storage/Backup Automation or collect data/event from storages
- Experience from working in a service provisioning organization;
- IT Architecture and design and knowledge of design/architecture tools and methodologies;
- Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements;
- Knowledge of NATO responsibilities and organization.
