We have a great opportunity for an experienced Principal Quality Engineer to join our friendly, well-established engineering business based in Dukinfield. The role will provide technical and functional excellence within manufacturing and Quality, to ensure all existing and new product and process introductions are delivered on time and which meet pre-defined quality and budgetary performance metrics

Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Leader, manage and develop the following positions:
  • Quality Assurance Engineer
  • Quality Inspection Engineer
  • Weld Coordinator
  • Provide direction and leadership in implementing the business strategy as defined by the Head of Projects
  • Ensure develop plans are in place and regular reviews occur of the team in alignment with the business requirement
  • Develop and implement structured team reviews with the necessary Key Performance Indicators required by the Head of Projects
  • Reporting to the Head of Projects to deliver on the strategic requirements to move the business forward.
  • Be fully accountable for all Quality Standard Certification including,ASME VIII, ISO 9001, Fit 4 Nuclear etc.

 

Quality Requirement:

  • Provides the Voice of the customer on program teams , internal and external customers
  • Ensures all quality elements within the process are completed in a timely manner, in line with the program requirements
  • Provides quality input and technical understanding to the process to ensure products and processes are realised to manufacture right firsttime
  • Provides technical quality engineering support to the program teams ensuring appropriate control mechanisms are implemented and suitable risk analysis is performed to validate the effectiveness of controls, ensuring the use of appropriate tools to include but not limited to:
    • MITP/Quality Plans
    • Process Flowso FMEA’s
    • Control Planning
    • Initial process studies
    • MSA’s
  • Ensure the development of quality processes at TPG Engineering aligning with the current and future customer expectation.
  • Drive best practice in root cause analysis and problem solving adoption current techniques such as 7 Step, 8D, Fishbone Diagram, Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Ability to be decisive and make data based decisions on behalf of the company, with consideration to customer requirements.
  • Observe safety standards on methods, equipment, machinery &chemicals, both at TPGE, Customer and Supplier sites.
  • Determine best practice manufacturing processes required to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification
  • Works with Engineering to identify problems with product and performance; may recommend solutions or enhancements
  • Work to improve equipment availability and capability by utilising continuous improvement tools and working cross functionally
  • Define manufacturing standard working methods to meet company,customer and regulatory requirements

 

Manufacturing Responsibilities:

  • Determine, specify and assist with justifying capital expenditure projects to improve machinery and equipment within the site.
  • Establish and maintain preferred supplier partnerships on equipment,tooling and gauging
  • Work with engineering to identify problems with product and performance; may recommend solutions or enhancements.
  • Provide technical advice on feasibility and practicality of design proposals
  • Undertake process trial work as required to assess processes
  • Assists with plans and designs methods to improve efficiency in production.
  • Ensure processes include proven performance, housekeeping and organisational standards
  • Work to improve equipment availability and capability by utilising continuous improvement tools and working cross functionally.
  • Lead activities to reduce process variation and improve machine and process capability
  • Assist to establish the most suitable manufacturing process to ensure cost, quality & delivery requirements are achieved
  • Ensure involvement from operational areas in all new and changed processes at both proposal and implementation stages
  • Provide training both formally and informally in machine & equipment usage
  • Include team leaders and operators in activities with specific task responsibility
  • Seek out novel solutions for manufacturing processes, identify areas of potential to improve and identify and agree action plans to accomplish this
  • Provide functional, cost effective and innovative fixtures, work holding,tooling & gauging – utilise fail-safe techniques as an integral element.

 

General activities

  • Carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
  • Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.
  • Follow company procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
  • Continuous improvement of contribution to the company.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.

Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience within Nuclear, Defence or Oil and Gas industry an advantage
  • ASME VIII, ISO: 9001, F4N, 14001, 45001, etc…
  • New product and process introductions
  • Knowledge of MoD DefStans and DefCons
  • SQEP to meet customer requirements
  • Competent understanding of quality tools process flows, FMEA,Control Planning, etc…
  • Experience of Quality control techniques
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and process application
  • Knowledge of programming techniques and process application
  • Active participant within new product introduction programmes
  • Experienced in leading and managing teams in quality improvement·
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years engineering experience with 3 years in a quality environment.
  • Desirable – Degree qualified in a related discipline (or suitable engineering experience).

 

Preferred but not essential:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a critical application sector such as aerospace, defence, automotive or energy
  • Evidence of team building experience through development plans,coaching and mentorship
