We have again added another exciting New Space venture that are based in the UK. Satellite Vu is a new UK based satellite startup with big ambitions. In under 18 months they will launch their first satellite to help find what’s hot and what’s not – literally. Their satellite will deliver thermal data to be analysed and delivered to customers in lightning quick time. The applications range from detecting plastic in the ocean to discovering those buildings that waste the most energy, and commercial derivatives of these techniques.
 
Based at WeWork in Aldwich, London, and thoroughly embracing remote working in these times, their team of data scientists, energy traders, GIS experts and tech entrepreneurs are focusing to bring this completely novel new dataset to the market and they are building up their team to do so. About the role
 
This will be a full-time, permanent role based in our UK office (hybrid work style).
 
At Satellite Vu we are a cloud-first company actively developing with cloud in mind. To support this, we’re seeking a geospatial strategist for our EO projects, with expertise in the strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale projects in the cloud.
 
The ideal candidate is experienced in cloud-based tech, with a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications, and ability to customize them to help our business become more secure and efficient.
 
Extensive knowledge of cloud maintenance and advanced industry knowledge is key to keeping us on the cutting edge.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the cloud EO and GIS strategy and technical implementation
• Architect end-to-end solutions for our in house and external facing product systems.
• In partnership with the business development, solution architects and sales team, formulate and execute a strategy to supply performant architectures
• Experience developing map based solutions and passion for getting hands dirty with code
• Build deep relationships with senior technical individuals within customers to enable them to be cloud advocates
• Act as a technical liaison between customers, service engineering teams and support

Profile

• 5+ years of experience in application and database architecture
• Experience working with external or internal customers to implement large-scale cloud solutions
• Experience using imagery and GIS software applications
• Experience using major types of imagery and creating GIS datasets
• Ability to drive process improvements focused on effective use of Geospatial technology solutions (LiDAR, UAS, GIS, etc.) to deliver effective, value-added solutions.
• Knowledge of the cloud services, market segments, customer base and industry verticals
• Prior experience in a technical role within a services organization
• Understanding of application, server, and network security and compliance requirements
• Demonstrated experience leading or developing high quality, enterprise scale software products using a structured system development lifecycle.
• Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

Nice-to-have skills include:

• AWS certifications are a plus
• Knowledge of web services, API, REST, and RPC
• 3+ years of experience working with Earth Observation based applications
• Experience in modern EO data frameworks and technologies like datacubes, STAC and COGS
• Start-up/Scale-up experience
