Sapienza Consulting, a Serco company is working with many exciting new ventures around the world involved with innovative New Space technologies surrounding earth observation.

As an Embedded System Hardware Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in taking state-of-the-art FPGA computing platforms to Earth’s orbit and beyond. Xiphos’ technology leverages open-source tools and infrastructure for reliable performance, then extends them with robust layers to support customers’ applications where no Linux devices have been before. You will be working with satellite payloads, lunar landers and rovers, science instruments, and image processing systems, in fields such as: Quantum key encryption processing, Payload processing for specialized cameras, Software-Defined Radios (SDR), On-Board Computers (flight controls), Lunar lander robotic arm controllers, Lunar rover Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) computers and Innovative new Xiphos products (Q-cards, IP Cores, daughterboards…).

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Technically manage a team of embedded hardware designers
  • Assign, monitor, and approve work across multiple simultaneous projects
  • Mentor junior developers and interns
  • Manage deadlines and deliveries
  • Manage priorities

 

Project Development

  • Collaborate with customers to develop requirements and obtain/ensure agreement on design approach and implementation
  • Specify high-level project requirements based on customer and internal strategic business initiatives
  • Specify, architect, design, develop, and document embedded system hardware for spacecraft payloads
  • Define simulation and testing strategies
  • Define a global strategic hardware technology roadmap to support future business initiatives
  • Work with test team to develop and execute functional and environmental hardware test plans

 

Processes

  • Oversee and manage subcontractors for fabrication and assembly of custom hardware
  • Evolve, optimise, and document internal hardware development processes
  • Ensure compliance with external (customer) processes and requirements
  • Take part in the continuous improvement and application of quality processes

Profile

  • 7+ years experience with embedded system hardware
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, or equivalent level of education
  • Experienced in hardware technical management, team leadership and coaching
  • Hardware Design
  • Hardware Knowledge: FPGA, RAM, FLASH (NOR and NAND), Interfaces (Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, PCI, USB) and High speed serial transceivers (LVDS, PCIe, SATA, USB 3.0)
  • Hardware Debugging: Multimeter, Oscilloscopes and Logic analysers
  • Hardware technical management
  • Technical Skills: Xilinx, C, Python, Linux, GIT, Gitlab
  • Must be able to obtain Canadian government security clearance
  • Bilingual (oral and written French and English)
