On behalf of one of our more established customers who is with an unbeatable reputation as a leader in hybrid, image, signal, and interface processing, we are looking for a Hardware Technician. Someone who will play a pivotal role in taking state-of-the-art FPGA computing platforms to Earth’s orbit and beyond. You would be working on PCBs for satellite payloads, lunar landers and rovers, science instruments, and development boards for similar applications.

Responsibilities

Perform schematic captures

  • Create schematic from a detailed hardware design document
  • Create Altium Parts, Symbols and footprints
  • Review and approve parts, symbols and footprints
  • Maintain Altium libraries
  • Work closely with the hardware designers
  • Work in Altium Designer environment
  • Some project might require involvement with other environment such as OrCAD

 

Perform PCB layout

  • Work with PCB manufacturer, perform PCB layout for custom boards and review PCB layout created by subcontractors or colleagues
  • Define PCB stack based on requirements and work with test team to ensure PCB layout considerations allow complete testing of the design
  • Establish proper design rules in Altium and work in Altium Designer environment
  • Component placement and critical components placement
  • High-speed routing such as DDR, LVDS, PCIe, Gigabit transceivers
  • Report and exchange with hardware designers regarding critical aspects of the layout
  • High speed signals length matching and RF signals isolation strategies
  • Mechanical constraints
  • Work on PCB design constraints with customers such as component placement
  • Generate 3D models and preliminary component placement during design phases

 

As well as

  • Produce drawings for test harnesses, test jigs and assembly jigs
  • Participate to enclosure design and prototyping
  • Perform board modification using soldering equipment
  • Fabrication of test harnesses
  • Work closely with contract manufacturer and XSC hardware team to find and validate second source components

Profile

  • 4+ years of experience
  • Experience with Altium designer Schematic and Layout
  • Technical formation in electronics or Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, or equivalent level of education
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer and other environments
  • Definition and review of layout rules
  • Good practices of high-speed signal routing (length-matching, cross talk mitigation…)
  • Altium component creation
  • Experience with Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • GIT Source Control system
  • Experience with High-Speed design and FPGA
  • Must be able to obtain Canadian government security clearance
  • Bilingual (oral and written French and English)
