Stara’s mission is to deliver a simple and low-cost solution for data storage in space and downlink back to Earth for all satellites. Reporting directly to the CEO and VP of Operations, the Head of Business Development will lead a technical sales team and drive our business development strategy. Your responsibilities include synthesizing market trends, understanding the subtleties of our target markets, and how to most effectively bring our solution into the hands of people who need it. You will ensure your team can identify, negotiate, and close large-scale deals.

You will work closely with senior staff and the engineering team to provide forecasting, updates and opportunities for expansion and new business across diverse market spaces. You will be responsible for establishing new markets and for company-wide sales.

This role requires a high level of autonomy and business expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a world-class technical sales team that will guide customers from lead, to purchase order, through integration, mission execution and post-mission review
  • Ensure that the company is aligned with market requirements and exploring alternative markets that could benefit from Stara’s platform and technology capabilities
  • Develop targeting and segmentation plans to create an effective sales approach for the company
  • Drive decision-making with a research mindset
  • Compile comprehensive forecasting, identifying and providing detailed projections for new business opportunities and creative business avenues
  • Present research in an actionable form that will support senior staff and investors in future business direction and decisions

Profile

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and leading a sales team
  • 5+ years of experience in business development and sales
  • 2+ years of experience in business strategy, data analysis, new markets, and forecasting

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in technical discipline or an MBA
  • Self-starter who executes with broad direction and minimal oversight
  • Technical background preferred, but not required
  • Program management experience
  • Exceptional communication skills and expertise building and maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Experience conducting and presenting detailed analysis of complex business problems and opportunities
  • Experience working with senior staff and at a VP level
  • Successful track record assessing market trends and acquiring new business
  • Experience managing and converting complex projects to actionable initiatives.
