About this job

Reporting to the Head of the Strategy, Communications and International Relations Division (SCIR), the Head of Communication plans, designs and implements the strategic communications of EUMETSAT, including support to the EU Copernicus programme, and manages the delivery of associated services including the organisation of events, the design and production of multi-media content and a translation service.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team responsible for internal and external communications and support services;
  • Develop strategic plans for internal and external communications;
  • Supervise, and directly contribute to, the implementation of strategic external communication plans, including:
    • Interaction with internal stakeholders and guidance to key contributors to external communications, e.g. managers, scientists, engineers;
    • Design and management of strategic communication campaigns using all communication channels available and targeting policy and decision makers, expert audiences or the general public;
    • Cooperation with strategic communication partners (e.g. ESA, the European Commission, National Meteorological Services);
    • Supervision of the organisation or co-organisation of large scale events (e.g. satellite launch events) and contribution to large scale events organised by partners;
  • Guide the design, production and publication of internet and intranet content, publications, imagery, videos, input to social media, etc.;
  • Provide a press and public relations service and coordinate with communication officers of National Meteorological Services and other public customers of EUMETSAT data to ensure consistent communication on benefits;
  • Supervise the communication contribution to EUMETSAT’s user and science conferences, symposia or workshops in cooperation with relevant departments;
  • Support the human resources division in the definition and assessment of training of personnel for external communication;
  • Assess the impact of EUMETSAT external communications and the adequacy of available communication channels to meet strategic needs;
  • Design and organise internal communication campaigns in cooperation with internal customers, and advise managers on internal communication;
  • Supervise the translation service;
  • Supervise the internal library information service.

Profile

  • Proven track-record of at least ten years in a corporate communications role, including experience of interactions with internal stakeholders, preferably in a scientific or high technology environment;
  • Demonstrable experience in creating and implementing successful communications strategies and plans;
  • In depth knowledge and experience of the use of multi-media contents and channels, including social media, for efficient communication;
  • Advanced professional media skills, with demonstrable use in communications initiatives;
  • ‘News’ style writing and editing skills, in English and French language;
  • Management, planning and synthesis skills;
  • Experience in the management of a multi-disciplinary communication team.
