This post is for a limited duration of four years (non-renewable) and is classified in the A2–A4 grade band on the Coordinated Organisations’ salary scale.

Description

You will report to the Head of the NAVISP Technical Programme Office, under whose direct responsibility you will support the technical management of NAVISP innovation activities.
NAVISP is an optional ESA programme, the objective of which is to facilitate the generation of innovative Satellite Navigation/PNT proposals with participating States and their industry, in coordination with the EU and its institutions. It is implemented through three programmatic elements: Element 1 supporting PNT innovation, Element 2 supporting industrial PNT competitiveness, and Element 3 supporting national/institutional PNT activities. In this context, the NAVISP Technical Programme Office is responsible for managing the programme’s Element 3 activities and providing technical support to the managers of NAVISP Element 1 and Element 2 in order to achieve overall NAVISP programmatic objectives.

Responsibilities

• Support the technical assessment of innovation results across the different elements of the NAVISP programme, collecting relevant recommendations and lessons learnt, and exploring options for follow-on developments;
• Prepare inputs and feedback for innovation roadmaps and technology harmonisation;
• Support the assessment of innovation activity statistics on industrial activity distribution and trade-offs;
• Support the continuous identification of target stakeholders and their technical requirements, possibly leveraging existing ESA consultation platforms;
• Continuously support the assessment of available or maturing PNT capabilities, in liaison with other ESA directorates and programmes;
• Monitor the technical progress of all innovation activities ensuring up-to-date reporting of their status from designated Technical Officers in coordination with the Head of NAVISP Element 1 (PNT Innovation) Office;
• Support ad-hoc outreach actions to increase awareness of PNT capabilities and of opportunities offered by NAVISP.

Profile

Technical competencies

• Knowledge of PNT principles, systems and technology, i.e. at user and application level;
• Knowledge of PNT innovative technologies and PNT technology trends;
• Knowledge of the end-to-end PNT value-chain for different market segments, both at European and international level including the major stakeholders;
• Knowledge of the European landscape of R&D programmes supporting PNT innovation;
• Experience in implementing and driving R&D and/or industry activities for space technology development.

Education

A Master’s degree in an engineering discipline is required.

Additional requirements

You must demonstrate broad technical competence in PNT techniques and technologies, beyond GNSS, complemented by specific expertise in at least two of the following areas:
• Autonomous transport and green mobility;
• Seamless PNT applications for Industry 4.0, e.g. for indoor infrastructure logistics;
• Alternate PNT timing, to complement GNSS;
• PNT robustness and resilience.
