Dedicated to the European Space Agency’s Earth-observing activities, ESA-ESRIN is the European centre of excellence for exploitation of Earth observation missions. The mission and payload operations of ESA’s Earth observation satellites are managed here, and ESRIN is the primary source for the acquisition, distribution, and exploitation of data from these and other non-ESA satellites.

We are seeking an Earth Observation Data Processing Engineer to join our multi-cultural team in Frascati, Italy.

You will be involved in activities relevant to the Italian PNRR initiatives within the downstream services. This mission entails responsibility for supporting the development and operations of high-quality processors able to generate added-value products to meet the needs of end-users and contribute to the success of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical support for downstream applications and high-level EO products generation, identifying requirements and addressing technical problems
  • Researching, diagnosing, identifying requirements, and addressing technical problems
  • Prioritize multiple open issues
  • Contribution to the preparation of technical documentation including System Design Documents and Technical Notes
  • Support of software integration activities
  • Support the review of data packages during operations reviews
  • Support the implementation of End-to-End solutions for operational systems, considering initial requirement analysis
  • Support the verification and the validation of the End-to-End processing chain onto cloud environments
  • Interfacing with other technical teams, stakeholders and end-users

Profile

  • Experience in remote sensing application domains, related to Sentinel-2/Landsat, and other optical and SAR missions
  • Good knowledge of Earth Observation satellite data product formats
  • Good knowledge of programming languages, such as Python etc
  • Experience with container-based applications and Cloud deployments (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Writing technical documentation (Interface Control Document, System Design Document, Validation & Verification Plan)
  • Pro-active problem-solving attitude
  • English, written and spoken
