Spaceopal is the prime service operations contractor for the European Galileo Satellite Navigation System and manages all Galileo Service Operations. The awarded European Commission (EC) contract to Spaceopal is more than just its satellites in space. Galileo Service Operations will provide high-quality positioning, navigation and timing services to users across the whole world as a civil-controlled service with guaranteed continuity of coverage.

 

Responsibilities

The Configuration and Documentation Management (CADM) tasks at Spaceopal comprise a wide range of disciplines, all aiming for the sustainment of the Galileo service provision.

The position CADM Engineer (License Management) is embedded in the Spacopal CADM team and reports to the GSOp ILS/CADM Manager. The role is two folded; one focus will be the proper management of the software licences needed to provide the Galileo services and the second part is dealing with the overall configuration status accounting and documentation maintenance tasks shared within the Spaceopal CADM team.

 

The tasks of the Engineer for Configuration Management / License Management include:

  • Collecting license information from the Galileo infrastructure provider and the related documentation
  • Maintain the data relevant for the license monitoring in the frame of a software preventive maintenance plan
  • Coordinating with the centralised ILS Support Desk the in time upload/update of underlying master data into the centralised IT tools
  • Maintaining the license budget files at Spaceopal Level (i.e. what licenses are available, how many used, where installed etc.) supported by centralised tools (CMAT)
  • Identifying potential risks and shortcomings related to the license file deployments and needed follow-up tasks to avoid any problems due to unavailable licenses
  • Manage and follow-up escalations to subcontractors related to overdue preventive maintenance tasks
  • Identifying, triggering and supporting necessary license procurement needs via SPO procurement department and maintaining status information in centralised tools
  • Ensuring correct recording and reporting of license maintenance tasks and status via the centralised tools by means of regular follow-up and reviews
  • Supporting the preparation and maintenance of configuration status data of the deployed hardware / software infrastructure in centralised tools
  • Supporting the processing of configuration changes and where needed participation to configuration control meetings
  • Quality checks on configuration / asset data maintained in centralised tools (HW, SW, Licenses etc.)
  • Providing status reports via centralised tools (i.e. monthly/ quarterly reporting inputs)
  • Participating to meetings and reviews, support the conduction of configuration management audits and verifications

Profile

  • University degree or equivalent qualification in the relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business Administration)
  • Experience or at least a very good understanding of software license management, from license need analysis, implementation and maintenance perspective
  • Good understanding of license terms and conditions and related impacts
  • Good understanding of software license implementations on computers/data centres
  • Experience in Configuration Management disciplines and underlying data/information handling
  • Fluent written and spoken English and German (license documentation is maintained in German and English language)
  • Strong attitude to team work, also leveraging resources not directly dependent on him/her
  • Well organised and accurate in maintaining necessary information/data for related shareholders in this process
  • Fluency in standard office automation tool (word processing, spreadsheets, email, Internet, etc.)
