Space Applications Services is a company based in the Brussels area (BE) that provides products and services for the space sector in many areas from Avionics, Robotics, Human Exploration, Science and Earth Observation.

The successful candidate will be based in our main office at Sint-Stevens-Woluwe (Brussels Area).The position is in the Systems Department, Virtual Environment and HMI (VEHMI) Team.The candidate will take the technical lead of the VEHMI Team and will mainly report to the Technologies, Applications and Research Division Manager.

The work assignation will initially relate to the development of immersive VR applications in support to system engineering of spacecrafts and robotic systems, as well as immersive VR applications integrated with haptic capabilities for astronauts training.

Responsibilities

  • Analysing potential concepts and technologies for VR (and possibly AR) based applications
  • Translating VR/AR technological concepts in sound architectures
  • Implementing and customising the software components required by the application (including: 3D models, animations, gamification mechanisms, etc.)
  • Providing expertise in HMI development and human factors
  • Carrying out the integration of VR applications involving multi-sensory rendering (visual, haptic, aural…) into functional demonstrators
  • Supporting business development activities for the VEHMI Team (business prospects, proposals writing, interactions with customers).

Profile

Qualifications and Experience

  • MSc or PhD with 3 to 6 years of professional experience in a relevant domain (Virtual Reality, industrial design, gaming industry…)
  • High proficiency with one or several VR engines and development frameworks (e.g. Unreal, Unity, etc.)
  • High SW development proficiency (C++, Python)
  • Experience with motion capture and/or sensor suites supporting VR/AR applications development
  • Strong exposure to agile development methodology and relevant tools (git, docker, etc.)
  • Proficiency with technical documentation production
  • Good understanding of the SW engineering life cycle.

 

The following skills or experience will be considered as an asset:

    • Graphical artistic skills and creativity
    • Previous exposure to the area of space & robotics related projects (ESA projects)
    • Experience with business development (e.g. ESA, EC H2020) & project management.
