Sapienza Consulting is recruiting a part-time (0.5 FTE) IT Maintenance and Evolution Engineer to support the Internal Services (HIF) Directorate at the European Space Agency (ESA).

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining, supporting and evolving (where required) the assigned applications and databases.
    • Definition design, implementation, testing, deployment and operations of new applications (mainly web) and databases – mainly administrative oriented to support all directorate requirements.
    • Identification of requirement for interfacing with ESA Corporate applications and design and implementation of related interfaces with directorate-specific local applications, in coordination with related design authorities in ESA.
    • Support to user community in their day-to-day usage of the applications/databases, in particular regarding data collection, productions of ad-hoc reports, etc.
    • Perform business process analysis for potential local applications and systems.
    • Produce requirements and project documentation in close liaison with the customers and in line with the project management procedures.
    • Provision of consultancy in information systems related aspects such as applications, technology, development methodologies, etc.

     

  • The Consultant shall provide support to the user community to:
    • Provide assistance in the technical and functional use of the applications under the Consultant’s responsibility;
    • Address requests related to applications and products out of his/her scope to the relevant support groups keeping the user informed;

     

  • The Consultant shall provide expert advice regarding current system functionality and respond to:
    • Requests for manipulation of the database (e.g. generation of specific script for data upload, application configuration, etc.);
    • Requests for data extraction, ad-hoc reports, etc. Troubleshooting applications errors not requiring intervention of the development team.

Profile

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience with the below technical skills;
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong skills on Oracle databases (SQL, PL/SQL, etc.) and related database applications (design and development) are essential. Experience in Oracle Application Express (APEX) is preferred.
    • A good experience in developing Web applications using standard application frameworks and related Web technologies.
    • Capable of Java (web) development
    • Capable in Software development (Pascal, C, C++, Java, Spring, Hibernate, PL/SQL, Perl, PHP, VB)
    • Proficient in Software Debugging
  • Non-Technical Skills
    • A very good working knowledge of spoken and written English language is essential. Excellent communication skills (written, interpersonal, negotiation, etc.) are crucial.
    • Must be able to train and explain issues to users over the telephone and email, and to maintain clear communication with the ESA’s technical responsible on all tasks and projects.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • High sense of rigour, proactive attitude to solve problems
    • Service orientation
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of another ESA member-state language is an asset
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
