Reaction Engines is looking for a high calibre Senior Design Engineer to help lead the mechanical design of novel technology systems & products.

The work that the Design Engineering team carries out is dynamic and fast paced, providing each team member with the opportunity to contribute across a range of projects. The team works closely with peers, seniors, partners, and customers so good communication skills are vital.

This opportunity would suit an engineer with proven industry experience wanting to further develop their knowledge whilst helping to lead a wide range of design activities and innovative technology projects.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose

  • Responsible for leading design projects, assessing solutions and generating independent designs for, our innovative propulsion system & applied technologies projects
  • Lead and integrate teams to work across the company/partners whilst also being trusted to work independently to develop innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Further develop design knowledge & expertise through development of designers & design methods

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

This role helps to lead the design within a multi-disciplined engineering team where you are required to provide robust solutions that are taken from conceptual design through to complete working mechanical assemblies that meet the project requirements. To achieve this you are to:

  • Be responsible for leading the mechanical design of key projects including many components & assemblies
  • Critically review and technically lead others to deliver packages of work
  • Deliver design solutions of RE products to schedule & budget
  • Create, supervise & approve technical documentation and clearly verify designs, by using a combination of hand calculations, simplified models and simulation software.
  • Generate a design specification in the form of 3D models and 2D engineering drawings for manufacture, assembly and verification.
  • Lead activities with suppliers, manufacturing & assembly teams to ensure all aspects of Design for Manufacture, Assembly & Service.
  • Prepare, present and reporting technical work, to peers, seniors & partners.
  • Support & sign-off quality & NCR assessments
  • Establish develop and maintain effective working relationships with all work colleagues, contractors and partnering agencies to ensure an integrated contribution to Reaction Engines’ corporate objectives
  • Observe and comply with policies and procedures for Health and Safety at Work and observe and continually promote equal opportunities and customer care in compliance with organisational aims and objectives.
  • Participate in learning and development activities that develop personal effectiveness and assist in improving performance in the role.
  • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required in line with the level of responsibility of the post and in order to meet the changing needs of the organisation

Profile

Experience

Essential

  • Proficient with CAD packages
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering drawings & GD&T (BS8888)
  • Able to produce comprehensive hand calculations & models to verify mechanical designs
  • Proficient in delivering presentation’s to key stakeholders
  • Experience of industry standards, specifications & practices
  • Practical engineering and/or manufacturing  experience

Desirable

  • SolidWorks CAD preferable
  • Delivered multiple projects across Industry  in Research and development prototype design
  • Experience in the design and development of turbomachinery, pressurised equipment or heat exchanger products​​​​​​​

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) or equivalent engineering experience considered

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer
