The Technology Research Ecosystem Manager will secure funding for a new $25M GKN GTC (Global Technology Center) in the US in Connecticut; grow funding for Technology programs for GKN teams in the US; and lead the coordination and relationships with US Research Ecosystem, and US GTC Partner management.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Government Affairs to secure grant funding from Connecticut State or other Federal funding sources
  • Secure Partners from GKN’s Research & Industrial Ecosystem to reside in the US GTC (circa 15 by Q4 2020
  • Support all GKN Aerospace business Lines (Engines, Military & Civil) by securing funding for Technology teams that will be based in the US GTC and to include the satellite Technology Centers in Knoxville, TN; Garden Grove and Santa Ana, CA.
  • Grow funding from an annual current $6Mnet spend to circa $12M by 2025. The majority of this growth will be through Engines Technology execution in the US.
  • Link with GKN External affairs team for policy alignment and lobbying grant funding sources
  • Aligning bids with Federal, local State funding opportunities and GKN strategy
  • Collaboration building, organize partner meetings and workshops, facilitating as needed
  • Prepare bids with specialists – defining the technical scope, program and budget.
  • Co-ordinate the contractual and legal and IP agreements with GKN Legal/Commercial & IP teams- Provide a handover to the relevant R&D project manager/center manager for execution
  • Act as the focal point and coordinator for the US ecosystem of research partners
  • Relationship management with GKN’s Ecosystem partners and Government bodies
  • Help ensure that GKN are getting the best value from our existing partners through linking Technology team needs with available capabilities
  • Have a good understanding of the wider US academic and research institutes to ensure that GKN are working with those best aligned to GKN’s Technology roadmap needs.
  • Once the US GTC is established, manage the portfolio of resident.

Profile

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years’ experience in a funding/technology environment.
  • Flexibility towards hours of work when tight deadlines emerge.
  • Willingness to travel (within US).
  • Project Management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of North American Research & Technology grant funding mechanisms.
  • Previous experience collating and preparing bid proposals.
  • Understanding of the government agenda, budget procurement process and policy associated with supporting aerospace industry.
  • Good knowledge of the North American research funding for Military and Civil applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal team working skills.
  • Capable of interfacing at a senior level with Academia, Local, State and Federal Government Industry associations and Customers.
  • Flexible and capable of working in a complex environment through establishing requirements across stakeholders, agreeing direction and ensuring compliance.
  • Able to gain consensus across diverse interests large multi partner research projects.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, able to work under own initiative
