About this job

The Fokker Elmo commercial department is a team of commercial and costing specialists who are responsible in the organization for:

  • developing proposals
  • developing customer business cases maintaining and improving cost modeling
  • developing commercial knowledge and insights based on proposal data
  • supporting commercial decision making (commercial governance)working within sales, contract and program management teams

 

In the role of Cost Estimator, you are the specialist regarding cost estimating proposals and developing parametric models based on commercial data and in close contact with your direct colleagues in the commercial team as well as other global specialist teams such as manufacturing engineering, procurement, finance and design engineering. The commercial team include cost engineers/estimators, proposal managers, contract managers and business modellers. Mark Smith is the manager of the department.

Responsibilities

  • The Cost Estimator is responsible as owner for the cost price calculation and the release (timeliness and completeness).
  • Responsible for translating technical and program-related requirements into cost estimates by making assumptions and choosing & applying standards.
  • Ensures that he / she receives good substantive input (correct quality, completeness and release). Coördinates where necessary.
  • Constantly improving the quality and cost calculations of the work, both at individual and at team level.
  • Checking and having the result checked.
  • Configuration management (baseline) of cost price calculations for traceability and a Bid Dossier for follow-up in follow-up phases.       
  • The focus is on the bigger picture rather than the details. You identify risks, (market) changes and sensitivities, and advise on process optimization and cost reduction. 

Profile

  • HBO (BSc) education (engineering, technical business administration, business economics).
  • DACE education is preferred.
  • Knowledge of machining methods, production processes and techniques, materials, tools, drawing systems, technical manuals, (military) regulations and the like.
  • Analytical. Affinity for costs and models.
  • Independent judgment and interpretation of the calculation outcomes and can clearly convey insights of the result and the relevant aspects within the quotation team and to other stakeholders.
  • Basic knowledge of project management (incl. Risk management)
  • Can handle time constraints.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language + English writing and presentation skills.
