The Cost Estimator oversees and manages the estimating requirements of the Commercial Department.  This person will be the lead in developing the recurring and nonrecurring costs associated with proposals for new work, as well as cost impacts as the result of engineering changes to existing work.  In addition, they will support the internal leadership (Gate) Review processing, creating basis of estimates data sets.


What you’ll do

  • Manage the estimating process for all Company RFQs
    • Gather engineering from customer sites and create folders for each bid and complete necessary forms and logs
    • Coordination with Operations, Supply Chain and Engineering to determine which parts will be makes vs. buys and identify required special processes
    • Work with all functional departments to assess the requirements and develop accurate recurring and nonrecurring estimates for parts and assemblies
    • Provide engineering packages to Supply Chain based on commodities for quoting, ensuring all necessary information is included
    • Coordinate with the Supply Chain to ensure all detail parts, hardware, and outside processing are quoted and received in time to support the GKN Aerospace Bid Process
    • Create basis of estimate slides to justify the estimate
  • Cost impacts for engineering changes (EO process)
    • Utilize Monitor’s ERP system to identify recurring and nonrecurring impacts to existing work
    • Develop accurate estimates, entering them into ERP
    • Fill out cost breakdown sheets with estimated hours and cost to develop prices for customer submittal
    • Work with the Commercial Manager to ensure estimates are completed within contractual lead times


  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
    • 3+ years of experience in estimating, designing, or programming machine parts
  • Additional Qualifications
    • Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints is a must, as well as a familiarity with CATIA
    • A working knowledge of MS Excel and PowerPoint is preferred
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Excellent organization skills, including documents and time management
    • Ability to lead meetings with Staff-level participants
    • Possess the assertiveness to drive continuous improvement within the company
    • Perform well on the Estimating Candidate Exam
