GKN Aerospace in Portsmouth supply an extensive range of products for different types of fixed and rotary wing aircrafts, land vehicles, missiles, UAVs, torpedoes and marine vessels for Fuel and Flotation markets.We are currently looking for a CAD Technician to join an IPT supporting the transformation at our Portsmouth site. You will be joining a high-profile, dedicated team of Project Management experts created to deliver the benefits of major business initiatives in an effective and timely fashion. You will be expected to update and report out to all levels of the organisation, the progress made in your respective area of expertise, as regularly as is deemed necessary. It is essential that not only are you able to work on your own initiative but also you must demonstrate the right behaviours as a solid, influential and collaborative team member. Whilst your technical expertise is essential you will require the social skills to influence and negotiate with colleagues for the greater good of the business.

Role Purpose

  • Creation of design sketches for engineering schemes and proposals.
  • Provide input into the FPT product design process.
  • To obtain a comprehensive working knowledge of the Company’s CAD system.
  • To contribute to the development of Drawing Office working practices and procedures.
  • To develop an understanding of FPT’s product range and manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

  • To work to objectives as set by the Engineering Manager or his designated deputy.
  • To liaise with the Project Engineers for projects, as required.
  • To work in accordance with the relevant standards as laid down in the Engineering Manual and Drawing Office Codes of Practice.  To amend/ update these documents as and when necessary.
  • To ensure that each task is executed to a high standard and completed within the required timescale.
  • Review all drawings and item lists to ensure that the correct information is depicted prior tothe formal drawing release.
  • Customer and FPT subcontractor contact as and when required.
  • Investigation of drawing related queries.
  • To carry out general Drawing Office tasks as required.
  • Review of new and revised manufacturing drawings and associated data/documentation, including the limits and fits, materials and protective treatments, etc.
  • Creation and update of manufacturing drawings and associated data/documentation.
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervision for the benefit of the Company.

Profile

  • The use of CATIA v5 (>R18), for modelling and draughting.
  • The use of AutoCAD or equivalent 2D CAD package.
  • Technical and Engineering Standards.
  • Drawing Standards BS 8888 (BS 308).
  • PC:  Windows and Windows application software.
  • Knowledge of aerospace change control process.
  • CAD systems and their operations maintenance and upgrades
  • Awareness of Subtractive manufacture machining operations (milling, turning)
