GKN Aerospace in Portsmouth supply an extensive range of products for different types of fixed and rotary wing aircrafts, land vehicles, missiles, UAVs, torpedoes and marine vessels for Fuel and Flotation markets.We are currently looking for a Quality Engineer to join an IPT supporting the transformation at our Portsmouth site. You will be joining a high-profile, dedicated team of Project Management experts created to deliver the benefits of major business initiatives in an effective and timely fashion. You will be expected to update and report out to all levels of the organisation, the progress made in your respective area of expertise, as regularly as is deemed necessary. It is essential that not only are you able to work on your own initiative but also you must demonstrate the right behaviours as a solid, influential and collaborative team member. Whilst your technical expertise is essential you will require the social skills to influence and negotiate with colleagues for the greater good of the business.

To provide Manufacturing Engineering (ME) support to the business throughout the design and production process.To assist in the resolution of production related issues, reduction of non-conformance, establish the most cost effective route of achieving the required quality and delivery. Ensure environmental compliance through ISO 14001 and 18001.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for one or more of the following at any one time :
    • Cell related prduction issues
    • Determining the mst effective and economical method of manufacture
    • Cmpilation of process planning for a defined area and define the tooling requirements / manage initial supply of tooling for introduction of new products, and/or modifications to existing products
    • Assist in the definitin of manufacturing facilities and equipment requirements
    • Prvide support for the introduction of new facilities and equipment
    • Respnsible and accountable for the definition, implementation and reporting of key projects and/or continuous improvement programmes, within a defined area
  • Be a key interface with a number of internal and external bodies at levels encompassing unskilled operators through to senior management
  • Address all tasks in line with defined ME procedures to achieve challenging targets
  • Make points of contact with external representatives including suppliers, consultants and controlling authorities

Profile

  • Must have a HNC/Degree level qualification or significant manufacturing experience in a production environment.
  • Experience of implementing LEAN manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge of GKN and its working procedures or experience in the Aerospace industry or a similar engineering company
  • Strong communication and IT skills including MS Office and MS Project
  • Ability to function as a team player
  • Ability to work under own initiative within a defined programme and targets
  • Problem solving techniques
  • Experience of using 6 Sigma or SPC in a manufacturing environment would be desirable
