Reporting directly to the Principle Technologist for the Industry 4.0 program and working closely with the Industry 4.0 program manager, this role will work in the area of Technology Insertion. Technology Insertion is the direct application of mature technologies either developed by GKN internally or provided by external suppliers, for direct implementation into GKN products and manufacturing facilities. The technologies will be deployed in the factory in the 0-4 years’ time-scale.

As a Work Stream Technologist, the role will be to lead the Asset Tracking technology area within the ASEA Technology Insertion – Industry 4.0 program. Specifically, the role will focus on building the requirements, knowledge base, technology selection, and demonstration, then providing the technology support/expertise to the business during the implementation phase across all sites. The work will be undertaken across a broad range of stakeholders, sites and facilities, but can be based anywhere in the ASEA organisation.

This role will integrate with the other Industry 4.0 technology areas, specifically: Data Analytics, Visualisation, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and Digital Supply Chain Management to provide an integrated approach for technology deployment across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technology area/project of Asset Tracking across all ASEA sites.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders ensuring support for the project across the ASEA business
  • Specific, tasks for the role would include:
  •  Able to plan and lead a project from the technology viewpoint, integrating fully with the ASEA business areas and functions.
  • Collection and integration of a robust set of business requirements for the specific technology area
  • Complete global state-of-the-art for the technology area, and maintain for communication and education within the ASEA business
  • Develop the case for technology introduction for the point of value and risk, finding agreement with the ASEA business
  • Produce, lead or contribute to the production of all supporting documentation (presentations, for technology communication and     reporting, technology development plans, test definitions, technical reports, equipment specifications, and CapEx case)
  • When required, be prepared to lead cross functional teams across the ASEA business
  • Contribute to the development and the upkeep of a technology database that will be used to capture, communicate and evaluate the     value and risk of current technologies available internally and externally to GKN.
  • Build relationship within the current transnational ASEA eco system and technology supply chain.
  • Confident in challenging internal & supplier costs, whilst working to a tight budget.
  • Contribute to the development of the GKN technology program annually.
  • Contribute to securing matched government or regional funding, where possible.
  • Ensure the program impact and risk is vetted using the TRA process, and business reviews.
  • Be prepared to support bidding activity, to ensure the right level of technology implementation.
  • Good technical understanding across a broad range of aerospace technologies.
  • Understanding of GKN key products and areas where technology can offer operational improvements in the focussed area, but also     contribute across a broad range of areas.
  • Able to develop a clear technical, value and risk case for all proposed technology implementations.
  • Project management skills to develop the Work stream tasks and ensure the progress to TCQ.
  • Able to work with teams to unblock issues impeding progress.
  • To work alongside bid teams to ensure that the opportunities for embedding new technology is maximised during the bid phase.
  • Good understanding of aircraft structures preferred
  • Understanding of upstream technology to deployment/M&P certification.
  • Previous experience in running programmes of work.
  • Knowledge about the businesses, products and sensitivities of collaborative partners.

Profile

  • Degree of higher qualification in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Manufacturing & Automation Engineering.
