This position will be based in Glasgow, UK. The successful candidate will be part of the Boeing Research & Technology – Europe Materials and Manufacturing Technologies team. The team partners with Boeing business units to execute R&D programs to develop, demonstrate, and implement innovative production systems that satisfy our customers’ needs by significantly improving safety, flow, cost, quality, ergonomics, and process stability.
The Boeing Research and Technology – Europe Materials & Manufacturing Technologies team is leading an R&D programme with the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) and the Scottish Enterprise to establish an advanced, near-net shape aerospace metal manufacturing cell for short lead time and cost efficient production of aircraft hardware in Glasgow. The technologies to be developed within the R&D program have the potential to provide significant improvement in unit cost, cycle time and productivity in a range of components on current and future aircraft. The ideal candidate is required to provide on-site support and drive the technical direction of the R&D project to lead the execution for technology transition into Boeing products. The work will be done in collaboration with other Boeing Research & Technology – Europe engineers, Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Fabrication engineers and the AFRC. The candidate needs to be well versed in metal forming and direct technology development, technology partnerships, government interaction and partnership opportunities and in university/industrial consortia arrangements. Shall have project execution experience including scheduling and planning and be capable of undertaking/managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
There will be ongoing parallel & future programmes focusing on improving productivity & cost efficiency to support delivery of programme.
