BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1,200 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers. This includes aircrew and maintainer Training Services for the Apache, P-8, E-7, C-17 and Chinook aircraft as well as DCS&S, the core of the future distributed training solution for the UK MoD

The successful candidate will primarily work within the Training Service Engineering department supporting the development of the UK E-7 Training Service. He / She will be responsible to the Boeing Defence UK Training Services Chief Engineer and will be required to work in and/or lead multidisciplinary teams

The role encompasses all elements of Systems Engineering including requirements management, functional analysis and allocation, integration and test, verification and validation. Elements of technical planning and programme monitoring and control will also be required to facilitate programme milestone delivery within time and budget (e.g. development of engineering plans, progress reporting, management of metrics and baselines, configuration and data management, technical input to risks and opportunities). Integration of Systems Engineering activities with specialist disciplines (e.g. safety, security, Human Factors, logistics) will be essential

Interaction with customers and stakeholders is likely to be part of this role. It may also include liaising with and providing technical oversight of suppliers (e.g. developing Supplier Statements of Work and specifications, monitoring supplier technical progress).

Responsibilities

  • Determining and managing stakeholder requirements
  • System Design including aspects of: Architectural design, Functional analysis, Interface Management, Maintaining Design Integrity, Modelling and Simulation, Solution Trade-Offs, Integration & Test, Verification, Validation and Transition to Operation
  • Systems Engineering Management, including: Integration of Specialisms; Lifecycle Process Definition; Planning, Monitoring and Control, including tailoring of generic processes, the identification, assessment, analysis and control of systems engineering risks and monitoring and control of progress
  • The application of the fundamental concepts of systems thinking to systems engineering. These include: understanding what a system is; its context within its environment; its boundaries and interfaces; its lifecycle and an appreciation of the role the system plays in the super system of which it is a part.
  • Liaison with Boeing Defence Australia who are supporting BDUK in developing key elements of the E-7 training solution. This will require the ability to spend periods of time in Australia.

Profile

  • A Degree level qualification in Engineering is preferred (but not essential) and a significant experience in developing, maintaining and/or managing systems/services within a synthetic training environment
  • The ideal candidate will have Project Engineering Experience (System Design, Project Planning,); Excellent synthetic training system knowledge and skills, Excellent IT skills; Good Customer Facing Skills.
  • He / she will ideally also have experience in some of the following areas: Training Needs Analysis (e.g. JSP822, JSP 939), Modelling and Simulation tools (such as VBS, VRForces, Simulink etc), Synthetic training standards (such as CIGI, HLA, DTESC rules etc ) and Regulatory requirements for synthetic training (such as CS-FSTD, SoM 2008, LVD etc)
