This new role is based within the Aircraft Interiors Design Centre in Frimley, Surrey; where we work under EASA and GCAA Part 21J Design Organisation Approval (DOA). This centre has a highly skilled team of engineers that is growing in 2020.

This role is to support the design and certification of aircraft interior modifications by generation, review and approval of certification and design documentation to demonstrate compliance with relevant regulatory and customer requirements.

Reporting to the Payload Systems engineering manager, working with the global engineering services team, across multiple time-zones, the new position is to assist, develop, integrate and document interior payload system requirements to establish the system design. Develops, maintains and modifies basic interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D and 2-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Assists with supplier development, test and production activities and coordination with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Supports investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

Responsibilities

Works under general supervision to:

Develop engineering design solutions with the use of CAD for modifications to aircraft cabin systems such as:

• Modification to cabin layout by introducing new LOPA (Layout of Passenger Accomodation) and its associated changes such as Passenger Service Units (PSU), Emergency Equipment, etc…
• Installation of Galleys and monuments throughout the cabin to suit end customer requirements.
• Modification to the existing aircraft environmental systems such as air conditioning systems, water and waste.
• Introduction of new aircraft paint schemes (liveries) and emergency marking system.

Develop substantiation documents in order to demonstrate compliance with relevant CS/FAR 25 and operational regulations, including:

• Flammability test plans and reports
• Design reports
• Ground test plans and reports
• Cabin walkthrough plans and reports- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis

Compile engineering accomplishment documentation, drawings and instructions for continued airworthiness including:

• Engineering drawing (i.e. LOPA & PSU changes, monument installations, etc…)
• Service Bulletins / accomplishment instructions
• Aircraft and component manual supplements

Profile

• BEng Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with minimum 2 years of aircraft interiors mechanical/structural design engineering industrial experience.
• ESSENTIAL – CATIA V5 and/or AutoCAD industrial experience.
• Knowledge and experience of aircraft interior reconfiguration programmes and primary and secondary aircraft structures.
• Working knowledge of sheet metal forming/fabrication.
• Working knowledge of aircraft material and fastener selection, hole size types, sealants & finishing.
• Drafting using CAD.
• Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of EASA regulatory and applicable airworthiness requirements in particular CS-25, CFR Part 25 & Part 21J design organisations.
• A high level of attention to detail and professional integrity.
• Ability to work on multiple programmes with varying level of requirements efficiently and effectively.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and show flexibility to changing situations / demands.
• Proficient with MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Self-motivated.
