Roke delivers advanced research, development services and products to high profile customers who come to Roke with varied and challenging problems to solve.  We are now looking for an advanced level apprentice to join the Commercial and Bidding Services team to support the business.

You will have an exciting and busy role with opportunities for progression within the team and the business as a whole. If successful, you will also work closely with the Finance and Marketing teams. These challenging development roles combine practical on the job training alongside studying towards a professional accreditation. The apprentices will work with experienced staff to gain job-specific skills in business administration.

You will provide support to business winning teams typically for contracts up to £250k with a fast turnaround time. In addition, you will provide support to account and bid managers in preparing major business winning campaigns and bids.


  • Deal with customer calls, emails and contract bulletin notices.
  • Prepare quotations, proposals and portal based tender responses.
  • Review bid materials, prepare and arrange internal bid approvals.
  • Maintain correspondence files and other administrative procedures within the commercial and finance departments to ensure a smooth and orderly processing of administrative support.
  • Data processing and preparation of management information for monthly reporting.
  • Work closely with the Commercial department in the preparation and delivery of commercial proposals, including draft terms and conditions, rate cards, prices and milestone payment plans.
  • Maintain a central repository (knowledge base) of bid artefacts, including case studies and proposal templates.
  • Support bid managers and the commercial team on major campaigns and bids; often in the Junior Proposal Manager role.



  • Application of simple work flow processes and governance controls.
  • Ability to produce reports, emails and letters to a good standard.
  • Working in or leading small teams.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE grades A-C in Maths and English
  • A Levels or NVQ Level 3 in English, Humanities or Science subjects.?


This apprenticeship trains you to play an important support role within the business. You will work towards the following qualifications:

  • Business Administration Level 3/4
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT, if required.


Administrators handle the day-to-day tasks in an office and make sure things run smoothly. This sort of work requires a strong sense of responsibility, accuracy and attention to detail.
