tpgroup, are currently seeking applicants with safety/task/business critical applications experience to join our small but growing Software Engineering team based in Wincanton.  We are looking for flexible, innovative and pragmatic thinkers who can help our teams and clients achieve evidenced technical excellence.

Responsibilities

This Senior Software Consultant position sits within our Consulting side of the business which works in partnership with the defence sector, national government bodies, international institutions and global prime contractors on enterprise transformation, feasibility analysis, systems/software/safety engineering, programme delivery and support.
 
As a Senior Software Consultant, you will advise others on best practice, help our clients deliver challenging solutions (including the achievement of technical excellence and standards conformance).  You will also work with our in-house team on a wide variety of software solutions across a number of sectors. This role goes beyond the development of high-quality code; you will be influencing technical direction and providing high-quality engineering consultancy from a position of hard-earned knowledge.  You will be comfortable working as part of a delivery team working at client sites, as well as delivering small projects as an individual. Part of this role will involve creating scopes for new projects, and assisting the development of technical solutions for bids.
 
This role is home-based with a requirement to spend significant portions of time working with the wider team in Wincanton, and also on client sites predominately in the South and South-West of England.

Profile

To deliver the role you will have extensive experience in software development, real-time embedded or application development in a commercial / defence environment. You will be familiar with standards conformance, for example IEC 61508 / IEC 62304 / DO 178C. You will have experience of more than one programming language (e.g. C++, C, C#, Python) and Real-Time Operating Systems and experience in different software engineering approaches, supporting tool-sets, and methodologies.  You will be a great communicator and have experience of technical report writing and have ideally been involved in the bid process and project estimating. You will need to be a team player, who has an inquisitive nature. Ideally, you have a background in agile software development and an interest in developing your areas of expertise further.

  • Candidates will need to undergo an internal BPSS check prior to gaining site access.
  • Candidates will also need to either hold a current SC clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance check (SC level) upon starting their employment with the company.

To gain SC clearance you will normally need at least 5 years’ UK residency.
