Due to continued expansion of the business, we have a great opportunity for a Senior Software / Systems Safety Engineering Consultant to join our friendly software intensive systems engineering team, which works to support the successful delivery of a wide variety of complex solutions across a number of sectors. The successful candidate will spend time supporting our clients Software Intensive Systems safety needs, through technical consultancy,independent assurance, supporting conformance to standards and certification processes.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical advice to ensure solutions are developed in accordance with applicable safety related standards.
  • Providing Systems and Software safety support to systems development teams.
  • Providing independent Systems and Software safety support to ensure compliant procurement across the development life cycle.
  • Responsible for ensuring that systems comply with all legal and legislative safety requirements.
  • Production of safety-related documentation, including Software Safety Cases in support of the delivery of Software Intensive Systems.
  • Generating and maintaining evidence of compliance to standards such DO178C, ISO/IEC 61508-3 / ISO/IEC 61511 def-stan 00-56.
  • Able to autonomously and also able to slot in to support client and internal teams.
  • Review safety documentation and provide constructive advice for improvement. E.g. SEMP, Safety Management Plans, 61508 tailoring approaches, Verification Plans, etc.
  • Either working on customer sites (predominately in the South West of England or at our office in Wincanton.

Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Hold a Degree preferably one of: Safety Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Maths, Physics, or similar.
  • Have an eye for detail, and also able to step back and see problems from a wider perspective.
  • Able to advise on pragmatic solutions to meet complex safety assurance needs, within the limitations of the project’s applied standards.
  • Proven experience in delivering a wide variety of software safety engineering outputs. E.g. Experience of planning for compliance to safety standards, production of safety plans and software safety deliverables, familiarity with hazard analysis techniques such as Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA),Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), System Safety Assessment (SSA).
  • Outstanding oral and written technical reporting / communication skills(MS Office), comfortable engaging with customers / stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with industry standards, especially those associated with Software quality and safety.
  • Able to work and collaborate as part of a larger team.
  • Have 5 (or ideally more) years prior software safety experience.
  • Comfortable with working on Defence projects.

The following are preferred, but not essential:

  • Able to contribute towards process improvement initiatives.
  • Flexible and able to support both long and short stints on customer’s sites (across the South West) as part of a blended team.
