About this job

To advise/supervise on the planned maintenance, overhaul, refitting, defect rectification, modification and commissioning of equipment in nuclear submarines and ships based at Faslane or elsewhere as directed by TP Group Portsmouth or the MoD. AMS2 experience (auxiliary machinery space) would be an advantage. To ensure technical and financial requirements defined within the contract are satisfied.

Responsibilities

  • To understand and carry out site activities, in accordance with contract requirements for installation, repair and test of equipment.
  • Provide a point of contact between the customer and TP Group whilst on site.
  • To be prepared as a working supervisor to assist in the practical work.
  • To maintain records of all work undertaken and to submit reports on the progress of work as required by the contract or as advised by the Production Manager.
  • To be able to converse and convey effectively with a diverse client group and produce succinct correspondence.
  • To maintain records of all hours worked against any particular requirement authorized by contract.
  • To allocate and control the work amongst supporting staff where applicable.
  • To undertake associated administration and control requirements, assist in the preparation of test specifications, related to handbooks and pre-fit planning as necessary.
  • To ensure all activities conform to the appropriate QA and Health & Safety requirements as necessary.
  • To be available at short notice to go and work on any site within the UK or abroad.
  • To be available to attend emergency call outs.
  • To partake in Sea Trials to commission TP Group equipment.
  • To provide technical support to Navy personnel regarding TP Group equipment.
  • To assist in the provision of spares to the fleet.
  • To visit/work at our Portsmouth site where and when the need arises.

Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • HNC/D or ONC
  • Supervision of Engineering personnel
  • Knowledge of air purification systems
  • Control of MoD projects
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or defence environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed computer literacy skills within a Microsoft Office environment
  • Structured logical approach with good judgement and decision making abilities

Preferred but not essential:

  • Experience of MoD Standards, requirements and practises
  • Ex-Navy or Submariner
  • Ability to work within a team using initiative and minimum supervision
  • Able to forge strong working relationships both internally and externally
  • Able to influence and advise at all levels
  • Good analytical skills
