About this job

We are currently looking for an innovative, experienced and highly motivated engineer to join the Sensor Systems team at Roke.

The role entails research and development in the area of acoustics, vibration and audio signal processing including modelling and simulation, algorithm development and experiment design & implementation.

The successful candidate will be capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team to develop innovative solutions and products for a wide range of applications. The Sensor Systems technology centre at Roke deals with a wide range of sensors and the successful candidate will contribute to the development of systems that utilise multiple sensor types.

Responsibilities

  • Research and consultancy in the area of acoustics, vibration and audio signal processing
  • Technology innovation relating to acoustics, vibration and audio signal processing
  • Algorithm development for existing and future products
  • Planning and conduction field trials and on-site tests
  • Business development and in particular writing and contributing to bids
  • Contributing to company strategy in the area of acoustics, vibration sensing, processing and sensor systems

On occasions, you may be required to work outside your core skill set acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to complete the required tasks.

Profile

  • A good honours degree in a relevant engineering, scientific or technical-based discipline
  • A strong grasp of mathematics
  • A good understanding of the fundamentals of acoustics and vibration
  • Experience in the application of signal processing techniques to audio-band signals
  • Experience across Matlab/Octave and/or Python/Numpy
  • Experience in C/C++

 

What additional skills/knowledge would we like?

  • Some experience or knowledge of the modelling and measurement of acoustic propagation and room acoustics
  • Some experience of signal processing algorithm development and algorithm modelling.
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to lead initiatives/activities if required

 

Security

Due to the nature of this position, we require you to be eligible to achieve a minimum of SC clearance.
