About this job

Leonardo is an international leader in the development of cutting edge sensor products deployed across a wide range of airborne platforms for our Aerospace and Defence customers. Pushing the boundaries of technology, accuracy, and safety in engineering globally – our technology defines the capability of the Eurofighter Typhoon; our products help to return service men and women safely home; our surveillance radars help coastguards save lives at sea; our thermal cameras are used in BBC’s winter and autumn watch; and our perimeter security was used at the Commonwealth Games.

A permanent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Supportability Engineer to undertake design analysis and influencing work on the next generation of Ultra High Performance Radar Systems, Laser and Electro-optical Systems and Inertial Navigations Systems working within an Integrated Product Team. We are a close- knit, skilled design team working at the cutting edge of engineering for Aerospace and Defence and you will have the opportunity to get involved in the new TEMPEST Radar Demonstrator development activities. You will be working within a vibrant capital city, with excellent transport links and walking distance to various key destinations. As an organisation that places great emphasis on personal development, you will receive on the job training with the opportunity to be upskilled to develop your skill set. Take that next step in your professional career and join an organisation that takes great pride in their employees, implements successful development plans and a great work life balance.

Responsibilities

Your engineering analysis skills will be used across the full equipment lifecycle: from concept and requirements analysis; through design; development; production; test; delivery to the customer; in service support solutions and finally disposal. As a senior supportability engineer, you will be responsible for generating, assessing and delivering the analysis of the Reliability, Maintainability, Testability and Safety (RMT&S) characteristics of our new products and product upgrades. Our analysis covers a variety of technologies including optical, mechanical, low power and high power electronics, digital and analogue control and processing and RF transmission.

You will support the team utilise their practical skills in design analysis techniques for aerospace applications, understanding key elements of the support processes and Customer operational needs and develop support solutions using state-of-the-art modelling, simulation tools and test environments. You will work closely with Systems, mechanical, Laser, RF and Electronics engineers to identify and avoid real support related problems on complex systems, before they reach the Customers environment. Tapping into your engineering knowledge and experience, you will be able to carry out complex RMT&S Analysis and managing your own work-load and your input to the team.

You will also have the opportunity to help develop the less experienced engineers in the team. You will have a sound knowledge of RM&T assessment and modelling techniques on electronic, optical, mechanical and mixed technology systems, understanding how to perform and assess Reliability Analysis from component level up to systems/platform level.

You will have good working knowledge of Maintenance Task Analysis and Reliability Centred Maintenance procedures and practices and be experienced in generating and using Equipment Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) and linkage to the test solution and safety.

You will have gained a sound working knowledge and experience of Hazard Identification and Safety Management processes.

You will be able to assess the value and limitations of Reliability Hardware Test Techniques and Planning. You will know how to apply Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) Processes in design/development, production and in-service phases of the product lifecycle.

You will be capable of clearly presenting design related analysis as part of the design review process and have the confident to present a compelling argument to the design team, in order to ensure RM&T is at the centre of the design considerations.
