Responsibilities

The Consulting and Programme Services (CaPS) business unit currently seeks experienced C++ Developers to join the small but growing Autonomy & Spatial Modelling team. We are looking for flexible and innovative thinkers who can help to influence their technical direction.

This role provides an opportunity to work on a number of software projects, but with a focus on our optimised autonomous navigation system, AntsOnDeck (http://www.antsondeck.com/). This is currently a system that supports autonomous boats but we are working to extend it to support any autonomous system (drones, sub-surface and on-road/off-road systems). We have other active projects in the fields of machine learning, optimisation, computer vision, and big data & analytics, and we are always seeking interesting new ideas to invest in.

Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Team player who can also deliver individually.
  • Extensive experience in C/C++ programming.
  • Experience performing code reviews.
  • Experience providing technical mentoring to team members.
  • Excellent skills in debugging and problem solving.
  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant numerate, scientific, or computing subject area.

Preferred but not essential:

  • Knowledge of agile software development.
  • Knowledge of/an interest in one or more of the following:
    • Agent based systems
    • Optimisation
    • Physics modelling
    • GIS systems
    • Machine learning
    • AI
    • Data analytics

Other requirements:

  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
  • Candidates will need to undergo an internal BPSS check prior to gaining site access.
  • Candidates will also need to either hold a current SC clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance check (SC level) upon starting their employment with the company. To gain SC clearance you will normally need at least 5 years’ UK residency.
