We are looking for an experienced Centre lathe turner and CNC Mazak QuickTurn15 2 axis Machine Operator to join our UK team based at our Yeovil site in the South West of England.

As a Centre lathe turner and CNC 2 axis Machine Operator, your main purpose is to Manufacture and repair of detail transmission component parts by operating various machines within a shop floor environment. Producing high accuracy product working to the correct quality standards by programming setting and operating either manual or CNC machines.  Working to drawings or written or verbal instructions while being flexible and proactive to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity. Training will be provided where required.

Responsibilities

  • Setting and operating centre lathe and CNC Mazak QuickTurn15 2 axis machine tools.
  • Liaising with Colleagues, Supervisors, Team Leaders and Production Manager.
  • Training Apprentices on centre lathe skills with a focus on safety.
  • Problem solving machining issues with minimum supervision.
  • High standards of general housekeeping maintenance and organisation of own working environment.
  • Working within all health and safety requirements.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings / sketches.#
  • Implementing cost reduction plans for delivery of completed batches while maintaining a consistent quality level.
  • Carry out routine daily checks on all equipment and checking batches prior to approval.
  • Provide continuous improvement opportunities to the business.
  • Being flexible to move between machine groups when required.

Profile

  • Time served skilled machinist with working knowledge of Manual machining and CNC machining.
  • Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Engineering Production or equivalent time served engineering Apprenticeship in relevant discipline.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing methodology  / continuous improvement activity.
  • Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings.
  • Familiar with the use of computers and there software such as word, excel.
  • Willingness to work within a shift environment.
  • Self –motivated but also has the ability to work as a team member.
  • Previous experience within a busy production environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively and confidently across all levels.
