Responsibilities

What will your role look like?

There are four key aspects for those in UX Lead roles at Roke.

You will lead UX delivery and assurance across a portfolio of Roke projects. This will vary from guiding workshops and ongoing engineering efforts to working daily with users and other customer stakeholders throughout the lifespan of a project or product’s delivery.

You will enhance and develop UX best practice at Roke working with the Head of Software. Taking your and others learning and sharing it with the broad Roke community. This will require you to adapt ways of working to suit everything from small research tasks and experiments aiding business analysis through to development of world leading international products and engineering mission-critical capabilities for our high-profile customers.

You will work with our sales, marketing and bidding teams and Heads of Professions to raise the perceived value of UX efforts and help grow the volume of UX work that Roke delivers. You will drive the creation of relevant collateral, including thought leadership on UX topics.

You will work as part of multiple teams. Along with the support outlined above you will work alongside Roke’s experienced engineers and consultants. You will support the search and recruitment of additional UX specialists to further support Roke’s UX delivery.

Profile

What do we want from you?

We want someone passionate about UX. Someone who is keen and able to develop this appreciation within our customer base as well as enhance our ability to deliver.

  • Significant experience in one or more UX roles
  • Strong familiarity with the UX domain
  • Familiarity with UX design tools (such as Balsamiq) and design processes (such as user flow design and storyboarding)
  • Familiarity with working as part of, and alongside, Agile teams
  • Ability to work with multiple technical and non-technical stakeholders both designing UX and UX processes
  • A self-starter who is prepared to evangelise for UX throughout the company and its engagements
  • Candidates with less experience may wish to consider Roke’s other UX opportunities.

Your work will typically be located at Roke’s site in Romsey, with travel to customer sites. There also exists the possibility for you to work on secondment with one of our customers, although this is not a requirement of the role.

If you like to get stuck in and create solutions in code using modern frameworks and platforms then that can work for us but it is not a requirement for the this role.

Experience in work with hardware product designs is considered beneficial but is not required for the role.

Security

Due to the nature of this position, you will either hold or be eligible to achieve SC clearance. As a result, you should be a British Citizen and have resided in the UK for the last five years. If you currently hold clearance we will assist you in transferring this.

Work may be carried out within National Security and so will benefit from Developed Vetting – something which we may provide a route for you to achieve.
