Purpose of Position:

The role is for an Engineering Team Lead Software Architect responsible for leading, directing and working on the architecture of the EvO Information Management System (IMS) solution in combination with Development and Test teams.

The Information Management Service stores and retrieves common data as well as efficiently distributing and replicating this data around the system. The IMS provides consumers with a single view of the system’s common persistent and transient data, irrespective of where the data is physically held. The IMS supports an OData interface to allow for the accessing data over HTTP using RESTful principles. The IMS software product is at the heart of the EvO solution and is responsible for the storage and dissemination of data across the tactical battlespace.

The development framework utilizes the Scaled Agile Framework Development and Test processes and standards. EvO is the first phase of the MORPHEUS program, which includes the transformation of BCIP (Bowman) to an open and flexible technical and business architecture.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in defining and developing data centric software solutions in Java from requirement definition through to delivery and will be responsible for the architecture, design and development of assigned areas of the product.

This role could be Oakdale or Chippenham based.

Responsibilities

  • Having ownership of an area of the software solution, working with the wider programme to clearly define and articulate the requirements.
  • Definition of software architecture and high level design using UML.
  • Prototyping candidate solutions.
  • Supporting development teams in the delivery of the specified solution.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to team members in designing, coding, testing, debugging, documenting, and implementing changes.
  • Investigating and resolving difficult defects.

Profile

  • Software Development using Java, Servlets.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing complex software solutions from requirements through to delivered software.
  • Hibernate, RDBMS experience, entity relationship mapping.
  • Working in an agile development environment.
  • Model based engineering using UML.
  • Ability to present at progress reviews and contribute productively in the team and with external UK MoD and other stakeholders.
  • Experience using OData, Olingo.
  • Experience using Spring, Maven, Eclipse, GIT.
  • Restful web service design.
  • Developing for constrained CPU and Memory environments.
  • Knowledge of the tactical domain, developing software for MoD projects.
  • Current and ongoing training in Scrum.
  • Experience in managing and training others in the agile scrum process.
