The 5G Step out centre (5GSoC) is based in a purpose-built building at Westcott Venture park at the heart of Buckinghamshire. The centre carries our high-level research into convergence of satellite & terrestrial networks. The 5GSoc will provide an innovation environment to explore the capabilities of 5G and beyond, we work in close collaboration with large industrials, Small and medium enterprise, start-up’s and Entrepreneurs as well as world class academia and research institutes.

Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a 5G Network Systems Engineer to join the Ubiquitous Communication (UC) Directorate to work on exciting national and international 5G collaborative projects involving diverse stakeholders ranging from research to commercial operators. In addition, this role includes working within the UC team to operate, evolve and support our 5G testbed located in Westcott Buckinghamshire. This is the world’s class centre dedicated to the advancement and exploitation of technologies that will underpin the networks of the future. The Centre is working in partnership with some of the world’s leading organisations, infrastructure and tools providers.

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who will be responsible for the delivery of key technical solutions within the collaborative projects which typical includes development, delivery and operation of the end to end architecture, you will become a champion for the centre and develop a deep and extensive knowledge in the field of future networks and the evolution of both satellite and terrestrial networks.

Profile

Skills & Experience required:

  • MSc or PhD in Networking & Data Communication, Telecommunications systems or similar discipline.
  • Extensive working experience and proficiency of mobile network architecture e.g. Evolved Packet Core (EPC), Radio Access Networks (RAN) and associated ancillary services e.g. IMS
  • Experience of 4G/5G core architectures and mobile networks protocols
  • Knowledge of 5G RAN and O-RAN/vRAN/cloudRAN
  • Expertise and practical knowledge gained on virtualisation and cloud platforms (e.g. Openstack/kvm and docker/Kubernetes)
  • Experience of MEC, Networking L2/L3, Software Defined Networks (SDN)
  • Familiar with 3GPP standards (including Release 16) and 5G-PPP initiatives
  • Accomplished and very knowledgeable on Linux (Redhat ,CentOS, Fedora)
  • Experience working on externally funded collaborative projects with external stakeholders
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written English)
