This is a permanent role directly with Satellite Applications Catapult. Whilst our standard working week is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, we welcome flexible working requests for this position.

We are based in Harwell with great public transport connections from all of Oxfordshire as well as London.

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, our offices were temporarily closed. As per government guidance, we have opened our offices for limited number of staff to meet the needs of our employees. At the time of posting the advert we would encourage all employees to work remotely where possible but you would have the option to work in our offices in Harwell or Westcott.

Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Telecommunication Systems Engineer to join the Ubiquitous Communication (UC) Directorate to work on exciting national and international collaborative projects involving diverse stakeholders ranging from research to commercial operators. In addition, this role includes working within the UC team to operate, evolve and support our testbeds and facilities located in Harwell and in Westcott. This is the world’s class centre dedicated to the advancement and exploitation of technologies that will underpin the networks of the future. The Centre is working in partnership with some of the world’s leading organisations, infrastructure and tools providers.

Profile

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who will be responsible for the delivery of key technical solutions within the collaborative projects which typical includes development, delivery and operation of the end to end architecture, you will become a champion for the centre and develop a deep and extensive knowledge in the field of future networks and the evolution of both satellite and terrestrial networks.

Skills & Experience required:

• MSc in Satellite Communications, Telecommunications systems or similar discipline.
• Minimum of 5+ years in the satellite communication domain
• Hands-on experience deploying and using satellite communication terminals and solutions on various platforms
• Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems especially communication payloads
• Expertise and practical knowledge in developing solutions that embrace terrestrial and satellite communications
• Knowledge of satellite networks as well as terrestrial cellular networks (LTE/5G)
• Expertise in software development and system configurations
• Accomplished in Linux (Redhat ,CentOS, Fedora)
• Knowledge of security concepts
• Experience in developing and implementing IoT solutions
• Good communication skills (verbal and written English)
