ArQit is building the world’s first global quantum key distribution network – delivering quantum safe cryptographic services from a constellation of low earth orbiting small satellites from 2022.

We have built an experienced management team of communications, satellite and security professionals, and are working with a broad variety of industrial partners to build and launch our system.

Responsibilities

ArQit is seeking a satellite payload engineer to support the design, development, integration and test of our innovative system.

This will be an exciting role defining the deliverables and overseeing suppliers and contractors to help deliver a genuinely cutting-edge system compromised of satellites, mission management software and optical ground receivers supplied by a skilled team of industrial partners.

  • Manage suppliers in the delivery of key work packages for the design and development of quantum optical payloads.
  • Review and enhance payload requirements, designs, budgets and documents from industrial and academic partners.
  • Monitor progress, identify critical items and manage risks.
  • Horizon scan and assess value of for new quantum and optical technologies for the ArQit roadmap.
  • Provide technical expertise to other ArQit staff as domain expert.
  • Perform technology trade-offs and technical analyses.

Profile

Required:

  • Educated to degree level in Physics, Engineering or a Technical Discipline (minimum 2:1).
  • 5+ years’ experience in space systems design, procurement and/or AIV.
  • Experience in optical satellite payload design and delivery.
  • Desire to work on new technologies and concepts for space.
  • Strong communication, organisational and time management skills.
  • Able to work autonomously within a small dynamic team.
  • Able to work in UK immediately and able to obtain UK security clearance.

Desirable:

  • Masters or PhD in relevant field.
  • Experience with photonics and/or quantum technologies in particular faint pulse or entangled photon sources
  • Experience with high speed onboard computer/software and/or FPGA/firmware developments
  • Experience with ECSS standards and/or space PA processes
  • Familiarity with Requirements Management Tools e.g. DOORS, JAMA
