The overall objective of your new team is to envision new service and system concepts, challenge accepted norms, determine potential for new technologies, and drive impact by stimulating collaboration and investment in industrial research for future satellite services.

We do this by working very closely with colleagues across the Catapult and partners in industry with a variety of relevant disciplines e.g. business modelling to achieve these goals and your role will be to support these activities and undertaking system design trade-offs, creating simulations of system behaviour, and analysing performance to name a few. You will be actively supported by a small team of engineers and your colleagues across the Catapult.

Responsibilities

We are actively seeking for early career Systems Engineers to join our forward thinking and innovative Technology Team here at the Catapult. The Projects you would be working on are diverse and exciting, they range across the space sector, covering ground segment, launch vehicles, spaceports, satellite constellations and in-orbit manufacturing. The opportunities to apply your skills, passion and experience to support innovation and unlocking new and emerging technologies are limitless.

Profile

Technical skills:

We are seeking graduate technologists, engineers and scientists that are able to undertake design, modelling and simulation of satellite systems.  Experience in one or more of the following areas is required:

  • Physical layer design, including understanding of coding and modulation, modem design, wireless propagation simulation and system performance modelling;
  • Link layer and end-end network design, including in-depth understanding of DVB, 3GPP, and IP routing and security architectures and protocol simulation and analysis;
  • Advanced materials and mechanical design for manufacturing, 3D modelling and both structural and thermal analysis.

Academic Qualification:

Either an MSc in a relevant area; or a BSc in an appropriate STEM subject and 2-3 years relevant industrial experience within similar sectors, if not the space sector
