Responsibilities

The Electrical Engineer will participate in design, analysis, assembly and testing of solar array and battery projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of electrical subsystems, including battery pack electrical design and testing, PCB layout, slip ring testing and development
  • Taking battery pack electrical design from concept through development, testing and final flight assembly
  • Produce system level, subsystem level and block level design including circuit architecture, circuit element selection and sub-system simulations
  • Work with cross-functional teams including mechanical and thermal engineers to develop space qualified hardware
  • Work with vendors on solar array development
  • Create clear and thorough documentation of design and product development

Profile

The ideal candidate should have 4 plus years of experience working on spacecraft hardware, and an Electrical Engineering BS, MS or PhD. They should be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment, and quickly adapting to new challenges.

Desired Skills And Experience

  • 4+ years of experience designing, integrating, and testing electronics hardware
  • Prior spacecraft electrical engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of electronic component qualification requirements, including EMI/EMC and survivability.
  • Electrical circuit simulation (ORCAD, PSPICE, LTSPICE)
  • Electrical circuit analysis
  • Familiarity with electrical block diagrams, battery systems and solar arrays
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium preferred)
  • Hands on lab experience with testing, debug, and bring up of electrical systems
  • Experience using lab equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, soldering
  • Thorough understanding of different battery technologies, their performance characteristics, and how to test them.
  • Ability to design robust and fault tolerant battery charging circuits.
  • Experience evaluating and selecting between different solar panel technologies, integrating solar panels with a battery, and protecting the system during fault conditions
  • Working knowledge of electronics product acceptance test methodologies and special test equipment.
  • Excellent technical communications skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience adapting and modifying ground based COTS system for space qualification is a big plus

Education & Work Experience:

  • Minimum: BS in Engineering plus 4 years relevant experience.

Salary and option compensation is commensurate with experience and training and competitive with Series A level Silicon Valley space startups but with exceptionally good benefits. This is a full-time position in Santa Clara, California. This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services. U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. Â
