Responsibilities

This is a rare opportunity to step into a unique role. Broad and with wide scope for personal and professional development, this position ensures that we get rockets away – on time and safely – and supports the safe recovery of returning rocket stages from space for reuse.

This role operates in a thoroughly integrated environment: it works with the launch vehicle and trajectory designers, safety analysts, ground engineers, facility construction, launch pad operators, and offshore marine recovery team. It is hands-on, operating a world-class range safety and surveillance system. The role is based at our main Auckland facility, and travels to support operations at LC-1.

You will work collaboratively within the team, with US and NZ agencies, and directly with the public.

Essential skills:

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a marine or port traffic management, air traffic control, naval surveillance and management or a role demonstrating equivalent capabilities and experience.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a wide variety of first- and third-party vessel, aircraft, or equivalent traffic movements over a wide area.
• Experience in high-pressure, time critical public safety management environments.
• Demonstrated experience delivering results in fast-paced commercial projects.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, including a demonstrated ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

Desirable:

• Tertiary qualifications in an engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Software or systems development experience
• Tertiary qualifications in safety and/or risk management.
• New Zealand maritime radio, GPS, and radar operator certificates or equivalent.
