ESA is looking for a G2G Mission Planning Engineer.

Description

You will be assigned as integrated support to the function of G2G Mission Planning Engineer in the Galileo G2 Ground Segment Management Service, within the Galileo Ground Segment Management Office, Directorate of Navigation. At the start of this assignment, training will be provided and familiarisation with the parent Department’s remit, processes and procedures facilitated.

The G2G Mission Planning Engineer supports the procurement and development of the next- generation Ground Segment for Galileo. The 2nd Generation Galileo Ground Segment will modernise the existing infrastructure and support the enhancement of navigation services through the integration of next-generation Galileo Satellites (GTS) as well as the 2nd Generation Satellites. The G2G Ground Mission Planning Engineer will oversee the continued specification, design and development of the automation and planning functions within the second-generation ground segment.

Responsibilities

• Leading the consolidation of a 2nd Generation end-to-end planning and automation concept;
• Supporting management of the 2nd Generation Galileo Ground Segment unclassified and classified technical baseline (applicable requirements and standards);
• Supporting definition of the 2nd Generation Galileo Ground Segment Statement of Work (SoW) according to the applicable ECSS standards and system design objectives;
• Providing support to the 2nd Generation Galileo system design activities as necessary to ensure consistency with the end-to-end planning and automation concept;
• Supporting specification of prototyping and pre-development activities to support end-to-end planning and automation concept;
• Regular reporting to the Head of the Galileo G2 Ground Segment Management Service;
• Supporting Ground Segment reviews according to the SoW milestones and applicable ECSS standards;
• Contributing to the dissemination of results of activities performed and knowledge transfer across and outside the Agency in accordance with management approval.

Profile

Technical competencies

• In-depth knowledge of Galileo system and ground segment architecture;
• Experience with the design, development, maintenance and application of related operational and ground segment tools and methods (such as Mission Control Systems, Operational simulators, etc.);
• Experience with both Galileo G1 Ground Mission Segment (GMS) and Ground Control Segment (GCS) operations as well as with mission planning functions for ground segments;
• Knowledge and experience in the fields of Navigation and related data processing and performances aspects;
• State-of-the-art knowledge in area of IT Infrastructure and software development and related IT trends in industry;
• Knowledge and understanding of cyber security matters;
• Solid understanding/knowledge of requirements engineering.

Education

A Master’s degree in information technology, electrical engineering or other scientific discipline is required.

Additional requirements

• You must have, or be able to obtain, security clearance to ‘ESA Secret’ level;
• You should have a good knowledge of Agile TM software engineering techniques. Knowledge of a scaled agile methodology would be a further advantage.
• Experience and understanding of the following technologies and engineering practices would also be considered an asset: Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Platform as a Service (PaaS), virtualisation, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), microservices, Confluence, Kafka, software defined radio, laser ranging.
