For our customer, the European Space Agency (ESA), we are seeking an experienced Software (DevOps) Engineer to work at ESA’s ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

Responsibilities

You will join Terma’s service team providing specialist IT support to ESA/ESTEC’s Quality Dept (TEC-Q) with the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (TEC).
The Dept. needs a dedicated IT infrastructure, beyond the standard ESA IT infrastructure (desktops, email etc.), to support ESA’s Materials and Components Laboratory and applications that they need to provide test and measurement services for materials and EEE components used in space missions as well as general Product Assurance and Safety Engineering support to ESA projects.
The ESA’s Materials and Components Laboratory provides to Europe’s space community the facilities and expertise to investigate the effects of the environment on electrical components, materials, and processes in support of advanced research and development, evaluation and qualification programmes and direct project support.
This infrastructure includes dedicated computing resources and technical facilities which requires IT planning, architecture definition, solution development, and deployment capabilities to fulfil the needs of the above areas.
Your tasks will include:

• Development and maintenance of laboratory IT infrastructure using custom solutions or commercial of the shelf tools (National Instruments LabView, MathWorks MATLAB, or manufacturer specific).
• Development of smaller ad-hoc data centric software in support of the Dept IT infrastructure and processes.
• IT Technical support for the operations and maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities.
• Verification and validation of the deployed laboratory IT solutions.
• Identification of improvement opportunities.

In this you will be expected to interface directly with the user community and tackle operational aspects as needed.
This is a full-time position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
The requested start of work is May 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Profile

The successful candidate shall have:

• A university degree (minimum Bachelor) IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar. Professional IT certifications in lieu of Master’s degree would be acceptable.
• At least 4 years relevant professional working experience, ideally within a large technical and/or international working environment.
• Experience with software development, deployment, and operational support (DevOps).
• Experience with CI/CD and associated tools e,g, Git, Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of IT Security aspect e.g. identity management.
• Knowledge of a range of scripting languages e.g. Python, PowerShell.
• Experience with heterogenous IT environments – Windows and Unix/Linux.
• Experience with 1st and 2nd line user support, ideally in a technical/engineering environment.
• Specific experience with:
  • Development in and/or operations of National Instruments LabView applications (or corresponding solutions) for automated testing, control, and monitoring of laboratory facilities.

Soft skills:

• Service orientation and ability to liaise with (engineering) end-users.
• Have ability to troubleshoot, research and work through complex problems.
• Self-driven as well as an organised team player.
• Possess excellent English language skills.
• Are a passionate and curious techie who loves to learn and identify with the wider ESA mission.

Desirable:

• Prior knowledge and experience with ESA and/or space industry would be an asset.
