For our customer, the European Space Agency (ESA), we are seeking an experienced space EEE Component Engineer to work at ESA’s ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

Responsibilities

You will be assigned to ESA/ESTEC’s Components Section, within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management.
 
The development of advanced payloads and spacecraft control systems depends on the ready availability of high-performance and high-reliability EEE components.
One of ESA’s priorities to ensure the availability of suitable, reliable, and cost-effective EEE components for the space industry. Working closely with other space agencies as well as industrial partners, quality standards are set for EEE components and tests are carried out to evaluate their overall suitability for space applications.
 
The Components Section is the focus for these activities in ESA and covers the following domains: Optoelectronics devices, Hybrids, RF and Microwave technologies, VLSI, Passive components, MNT, w.r.t. design, manufacturing and testing, standardisation and qualification.
 
As Component Technology Engineer your tasks will be:

  • Providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects and programmes regarding microwave, photonic or Si components throughout all project phases;
  • Participating in project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals;
  • Contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agency’s technology programmes;
  • Defining, initiating, and managing R&D activities;
  • Supporting technology domain-related standardisation activities (within the scope of ESA’s ESCC, ECSS standards);
  • Initiating and monitoring laboratory activities including preparation of test plans and reviews of test reports;
  • Contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency;

 
This is a full-time position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
The requested start of work is June 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Profile

The successful candidate shall have:

  • A Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering or Physics or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in EEE engineering, preferably for space applications.
  • Experience in one or more of the domains:
    • Active microwave.
    • Silicon and photonics.
  • Capable of producing reports, presentations, and other pertinent documentation (incl. web publications) in English language.

Desirable:

  • Important additional assets would be experience from general EEE support for space projects.
  • Prior knowledge of standards in the EEE domain e.g. ECSS.
