For our customer, ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking Security and System Engineering R&D and Data Systems Manager to support their mission operations division.

Responsibilities

The service to be provided relates to the Mission Data Systems (MDS) which include Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, Operational Simulators, Service Provision Data Centre and Advanced Software Applications.
As a Security and System Engineering R&D and Data Systems Manager your tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Development and Maintenance of Mission Data Systems
    • Specification and management of Software Requirements
    • Contractual and technical work for the start of a new MDS project
    • Running the MDS software development and maintenance projects
    • Support the Management and perform ESOC internal activities related to MDS (deployment, testing, configuration etc…) according to ESOC internal processes.
  • Support to Mission’s critical activities
    • Organisation of Software Support (SWS) on-site & environment preparation
    • Act as a role of Software Coordinator in the FCT
  • Support to missions during the whole lifetime such as:
    • Review of MIRD and contribution to MIP
    • Definition of external and internal interfaces
  • Support to 3rd Party and Special Projects
    • Support the ESA service manager in defining the technical and organisational setup of ESA service, including SLA and costing
  • Support to study, innovation and standardization
    • Prepare proposals
    • Run approved studies or innovation works
    • Organise and coordinate joint projects with other agencies in the context of standardisation (e.g. interoperability testing, prototyping)
    • Support ESA as a member of international Standardisation working groups
  • Infrastructure and environment
    • Automating CI/CD processes
    • Providing training in usage of CI/CD, container orchestration, and DevOps tools.

This is a full-time position to be located at ESOC’s premises in Darmstadt with the planned start date on 1st May 2021 or ASAP thereafter.

Profile

In addition to having a university degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics, you should be able to cover as many of the following topics as possible:
Essential skills are:

  • Experience with requirements management including respective tools like doors
  • Experience with test management including respective tools like HPQC
  • Experience with development and maintenance of big software projects
  • Proven track record of successful project management
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Reliability and independence working on own tasks while also being a team player

Desirable skills include:

  • Familiarity with the ESOC infrastructure (e.g.: Scos-2000, SIMSAT9 and operational environment
  • Knowledge of Spacecraft (especially for the SIM)
  • Knowledge of Standards (Engineering and Quality)
  • Awareness of the technology trends and interest in R&T
  • Familiarity with MDS lifecycle

You will be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, able to work calmly and accurately under stress and able to work without supervision.
