About this job

We are looking for experienced Software Engineers with technical leadership capabilities to support our customer, the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany, with the development of its EGOS-CC / EGS-CC software system. EGOS-CC is the latest software used to be used by ESOC for its next generation of satellite mission control systems.
You will be part of a software engineering service team supporting the development and evolution of the missions control systems for ESOC’s Earth Observation spacecraft.
 

Responsibilities

As part of the software engineering service team supporting ESOC, you are expected to be take technical responsibility for all aspects of software development, including design, coding, testing, validation, problem investigation and correction. Specific planned activities of the team include:

  • Development of extensions to EGOS-CC / EGS-CC for functions needed for of EO missions.
  • EGOS-CC base systems and core EO features, for current and future EO missions.
  • Development of demonstrator systems for specific spacecraft missions, such as SWARM and Sentinel-6, to show the viability of the new system, and to eventual shadow the operations of the currently operational mission control systems.

You will be responsible for taking the leadership of team activities, and able to manage activities being run by ESOC such as studies, in particular in the area of spacecraft communication protocols. 

In addition to the software engineering activities, you may be expected to provide technical user support to users of the system, including Flight Control team member, as well as to other engineering staff.

This is a full-time position as a Terma employee to be located at ESOC’s premises in Darmstadt with the planned start date on 1st August 2021.

Profile

In addition to having a masters degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics, you should be able to cover many of the following topics:
Essential skills are:

  • Minumum 4 years of experience working in software development
  • Experience EGS-CC and EGOS-CC
  • Space domain knowledge
  • Java programming
  • Software development team leadership

Desirable skills include:

  • SCOS-2000 MCS
  • ECSS standards
  • Formal software test and validation processes
  • Relevant testing frameworks (JUnit, TestNG, Mockito),
  • DevOps
  • Git version control
  • SQL and at least one RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle DB, etc)
  • Linux
  • OSGi and related tools (Apache Karaf, Pax Exam, Equinox)
  • Eclipse IDE, RCP, and Eclipse Modelling Framework (EMF)
  • Knowledge of communication protocols used with spacecrafts (PUS, DTN, CFDP, MO).

You should have knowledge of technical document writing such as user requirements, design documentation, and test documentation.
Excellent communications skills, with very good written and spoken English, is required.
You will be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, able to work calmly and accurately under stress and able to work without supervision.
