About this job

  • Ionising radiation protection design and development
  • Perform characterisation of the radiation environment using appropriate software tools
  • Interpret the radiation environment into engineering specifications
  • Direct and support test campaigns on new technologies/devices
  • Materials assessment

Responsibilities

Support to Engineering Services Team activities including but not limited to:

Radiation hardness assurance

  • Analysis of ionising radiation environment
  • Parts approval activities
  • Assessment of materials reaction to radiation
  • Radiation verification testing

Materials Assessment to the space environment

  • Vacuum – outgassing etc
  • Ionising radiation effects
  • Update and maintain the radiation test database
  • Examine in-orbit assets to support understanding of component / unit behaviour in the space environment
  • Support production of guidelines for engineers for different radiation environments, parts selection approach etc.

Interfacing with projects, system, subsystem and unit engineers as appropriate throughout mission lifecycle

Profile

A good Degree in Physics, Engineering or appropriate vocational qualifications

The following experience is advantageous:

  • Experience in the space industry
  • Experience in radiation analysis
  • Familiarisation with numerical analysis tools
  • Space mission and system level experience, including interfacing to other disciplines such as Mechanics, EEE, PA, AOCS, Propulsion, AIT and Operations

Relevant engineering experience

  • Good science/engineering knowledge
  • A system level understanding of engineering principles
  • Excellent verbal communications and presentations skills
  • Excellent writing skills with an ability to generate quality technical documentation
  • Excellent organisational and team working skills
  • Computer literate
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • High level of self-motivation

Able to demonstrate company mindsets; accountability, one team, customers and projects rule and audacity
